About this file

This document includes questions and answers related to a federal solicitation for replacing lint traps and stacks at three buildings on Keesler Air Force Base. The solicitation seeks to replace lint traps and associated drain piping at Buildings 6965, 7404, and 7420 on base. One tree will need to be removed that interferes with work at Building 6965, and excavation within 25% of live oak tree canopies will be permitted. Building 6965 has sinks/tubs in each floor laundry room, Building 7404 has no laundry room plumbing, and Building 7420's first floor is now used for physical therapy with laundry equipment and plumbing to be removed and reinstalled. The exterior drain piping for Building 7404 runs north underground to an existing lint trap behind a knee wall west of the building's north entrance. The contractor will be responsible for cleaning the underground line between the buildings and installing cleanouts.

Lint Traps and Stacks, Phase 2

Questions and Answers 18 August 2021

Q1: Do we utilize the existing vent system to the roof for the drains or are we required to compromise the integrity of the roof in order to replace the drain vent all the way to the roof?

A1: Existing vent system may be tied into and reused from 3rd floor through the roof.

Q2: Will contractor be allowed to remove trees that are currently interfering with the scope of work?

A2: There is currently (1) elm tree at B6965 which will interfere with the scope of work.

This elm tree was not intended as part of the landscape (grown through bicycle rack next to facility wall) and is to be removed by contractor during excavation.

Q3: With regard to live oak trees, what is the directive concerning excavation within the drip line/canopy? Will contract be required to provide “warranty” on trees if root bed is affected during the course of construction?

A3: Excavation will be permitted inward to 25% of the total area from the outside of the drip line canopy. All care should be provided by the contractor to prevent any disruption to live oak and any clarifications regarding the 25% requirement should be addressed prior to disrupting the drip line / canopy.

Q4: Do all three buildings have sink/tubs located in the laundry rooms?

A4: -- B6965 Sink/tub in laundry of every floor.

-- B7404 No sink/tub in any laundry.

-- B7420 Sink/tub on 2nd and 3rd floor, 1st floor of facility is now set up for physical therapy.

No laundry equipment or laundry connections are currently stubbed out from the existing false walls. Contractor to perform the same demo and replacement work as with the other floors (excluding the plumbing wall boxes and electrical receptacles and including the existing fixtures). The contractor will remove, store, and reinstall equipment as required to complete work in this area (to include wash sink, bottle fill water fountain, and rubber anti-fatigue flooring squares).

Drain/water piping and electrical has been capped behind these walls. Contractor will replace piping and drainage behind walls per project documents and install caps behind gypsum walls to allow for future reinstallation of laundry facilities into this space.

Access to this area of the facility will be coordinated with the facility manager(s) through the CM.

Q5: Where are the exterior pipes located for building 7404?

A5: Existing piping runs North beneath the facility to the existing lint trap, which is located behind the knee wall in the grass area to the West of the front entrance located on the North side of the building. Drawing M3.0, detail 1, can be used to determine the approximate location for building 7404 based on the additional information provided here.

Work remains the same except as follows:

• Contractor to mechanically clean and reuse 4” line running beneath common area of dormitory. Connection from new drain and old will be made inside laundry area to include an easily accessed cleanout to allow for future cleaning of this line.

• Existing lint trap will be replaced with new to include (2) cleanouts as called for in original project documents.
