Repair CE Open Storage Canopy

Questions and Answers

1. QUESTION: Is there HSS tubing on either side of the joists? Pointed out in red in picture below.

ANSWER: Yes; See 2/S300. Tubing runs between each joist perpendicular to joist seat. Typical at all joist seats.

2. QUESTION: What laydown area will be set aside, and will it be within the project area?

ANSWER: A section on the right side of the gate, and the left side to the barriers for the overflow and parking if needed. Everything will be removed before the start date.

3. QUESTION: Wil power, water, and/or sewer/septic be available at the site and will there be any cost to the contractor for set up or use?

ANSWER: There is a water spicket at the project site .The electric power (110 V) can be provided with the use of extension cords. There is NO sewer available at site. The Government will provide power and water at no cost to the contractors.

4. QUESTION: Will the area have any other activity and if so, what is the anticipated effect on this work?

ANSWER: Minimal traffic to attached facility, will not be affecting the project under normal operations.

Vectrus will need access to the barriers in case of security issues or Major weather events

5. QUESTION: Is there a Hazardous Materials or Environmental Report for this structure (i.e.

asbestos/LBP/etc.)?

ANSWER: No., please see questions 9.

6. QUESTION: Is there any items to salvage and be turned over to the GOV or recycled on base?

ANSWER: NO, unless it has been identified in the project

7. QUESTION: What type of mechanical seam is required - - single or double lock?

ANSWER: Mechanically seamed double lock “bulb” profile where the female leg is properly crimped over the male leg. Minimum 2-1/2” seam height. See spec section 07 61 15.00 20, paragraph 2.1.1.5.

8. QUESTION: What level of surface prep will be required for painting?

ANSWER: See spec section 09 90 00, paragraph 3.4.1.b. All metal surfaces shall be prepped to a minimum of SSPC-SP 6 (SSI-Sa2) / NACE No. 3. and shall meet the preparation requirements of the coatings manufacturer(s).

9. QUESTION: Has the structure been tested for lead based paint? If so, what abatement procedures are required?

ANSWER: Yes. All tests were negative

10. QUESTION: Are double-lok fasteners required for the SSMR?

ANSWER: Mechanically seamed double lock “bulb” profile where the female leg is properly crimped over the male leg. Minimum 2-1/2” seam height. See Spec section 07 61 15.00 20, paragraph 2.1.1.5.

11. QUESTION: If offeror is submitting their proposal electronically, does the Government also require a hard copy of the Bid Guarantee/Bond be submitted prior to the proposal due date or will the electronic copy included in the proposal response suffice?

ANSWER: An electronic copy is adequate as long as all seals and are visible and legible. If unable to provide a good copy, please provide a hard copy to 81 CONS.

12. QUESTION: There are several different coating systems listed in the Division 5 coating schedule for existing steel depending on existing steel conditions, existing coatings, etc. Which coating schedule shall be utilized for the existing steel on this project, as no information is listed in the specifications or drawings to allow a specific coating system to be determined by the bidder.

ANSWER: See spec section 09 90 00, Division 5, paragraph C.1 – Waterborne Light Industrial Coating

13. QUESTION: Division 5 lists several different surface preparation standards (SP-2, SP-3, SP-6, SP-10, SP-12) although, there is nothing stating what the specified surface prep will be for the existing steel on this project. Considering the current condition of all existing steel on this project, which degree of surface preparation (SP-2, SP-3, SP-6, SP-10) will be required for existing steel?

ANSWER: SSPC-SP 6, minimum.

14. QUESTION: If blasting (SP-6 or SP-10) will be the required surface preparation on existing steel, what will be the required surface prep on any areas inaccessible to blasting (SP-2, SP-3, etc.)?

ANSWER: SP-3

15. QUESTION: Will the period of performance be extended based on Structural Steel Joists taking 5 - 6 months for delivery due to COVID-19?

ANSWER: There is currently no planned extensions to the period of performance for this project.
