ANSI/TIA/EIA standards shall be a secondary set of governing standards for all telecommunications cabling plant designs, testing and installations. The primary ANSI/TIA/EIA standards applicable to this infrastructure program are 568-B, Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard, and 569-B, Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunications Pathways and Spaces. These standards establish the minimum requirements for telecommunications cabling within an office environment. They recommend topology and maximum performance distance for various topologies. They establish media parameters, which determine network performance distance for various topologies. They specify connector and pin assignments to ensure inter-connectivity. Moreover, they establish the useful life of telecommunications cabling systems as being a minimum of ten years. Designers and installation teams are responsible for adhering to these accepted industry standards. More stringent standards can be adopted, however, care must be exercised to ensure the more stringent characteristics are followed for the complete horizontal cabling system including connecting hardware, patch cords, equipment cords, work areas cords, and cross-connect wiring. These documents may be obtained through Global Engineering Documents, 1-800-854-7179.

| TR | Actual TR or Equipment Room where the end of the wall plate cables terminate. In existing facilities with no Telecom Room (TR) numbers the TR room identifier shall be floor number, room number where room number starts with the letter A with additional TR labeled B, C etc. | |
| RACK # | Actual Rack number that contains the patch panel where the cable terminates. | |
| PATCH PANEL # | Actual patch panel number. | |
| PORT #’s | Actual port numbers in the patch panel |
The bottom position of the UTP wall plate shall be marked with the Room Number that the wall plate is installed. This information is reflected in the site cable plan.
Top Position Example:
110-1-1-1, 2
TR 110
Rack # 1 Patch Panel # 1 Port #’s 1,2 (On the patch panel)
Bottom Position Example:
32 = Room Number (Actual room # from the cable plan and facility drawings at time of design)
Top Position Example: (no comm. room identifier) 1A-1-1-1, 2 = TR 1A, Rack # 1, Patch Panel # 1, Port #’s 1,2 (On the patch panel)

7.2 Fiber Patch Panel Labeling
For fiber patch panels where the fiber originates in another building it shall be labeled using the following format. Building number, strand count, type of fiber, and fiber end point building # or ITN #.
For example: B 1130 01-36 SM to ITN 1109 B1130 = The building # the patch panel is in and fiber is terminated.
01-36 = The number of fiber strands terminated SM = Type of fiber (Single mode) ITN 1109 = Other end where the fiber is terminated.
For fiber patch panels such as cable ties between comm. rooms in the building where the fiber originates in another room shall be labeled using the following format. Room number, strand count, type of fiber, and fiber end point in what room.
For example: Tie Rm 130 01-12 MM to Rm 220 Rm 130 = The room # the patch panel is in and fiber is terminated.
01-12 = The number of fiber strands terminated MM = Type of fiber (Multimode fiber) Rm 120 = Other end where the fiber is terminated.
7.3 High Density Patch Panel Labeling
Example: 1A4 1 – Floor A – Patch Panel in alpha order/per rack 4 – Port #4 as shown by picture above
7.4 Cables
All cables will be labeled using color labels on both ends with encoded identifiers per ANSI/TIA/EI
