SCOPE OF WORK
Fish Waste Removal Service for Pendills Creek NFH and Sullivan Creek NFH Pendills Creek / Sullivan Creek National Fish Hatchery 21990 West Trout Lane Brimley, MI 49715
(906) 437-5231 Fax: (906) 437-5393
The scope of work for this contract will be to pump out and haul away fish waste manure sludge/slurry that collects into two 45 ' circular concrete storage ponds one located at Pendills Creek NFH and one located at Sullivan Creek NFH. Each tank holds 60,000 gallons of fish waste manure slurry. The period of performance will be from June 1, 2015 to August 31, 2015. Due to the nature of the operation an exact volume of waste is not available at this time. The contractor needs to supply a very long 30 foot or longer suction tube/pipe to reach the far sides of the ponds. Once this fish waste slurry is pumped out it needs to be legally disposed of with regard to current Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulations pertaining to fish waste manure, this is solely the contractors responsibility. As a requirement of the contract, a hauling log must be maintained documenting each trip by date and time and volume hauled and where the final disposition of the fish waste hauled will be. Copies of the legal disposition site need to be submitted to Pendills Creek NFH along with the hauling log and hauling weights if the trucks are weighed each trip. All of these records are needed for legal record keeping at the hatchery. If the fish waste is land applied it is the requirement of the contractor to legally conduct this activity with regard to MI DEQ regulations. This may include having needed soils testing conducted so DEQ can determine application rate for land application. As mentioned above all hauling records must be submitted to the hatchery manager and hauling must be conducted during normal business hours 7:00 A - 3:30P Monday through Friday unless it becomes beneficial for hatchery operations to allow hauling at other times and days.
The contracted hauler must contact the hatchery 1 week prior to conducting work. A raceway cleaning schedule will be provided to the contractor because the clarifiers cannot be pumped out while raceway cleaning is taking place.
Note: This contract requires Hatchery Manager visual inspection of each tank after pumping has been completed to document the work has been completed satisfactorily based upon contracted requirements.
Also supplied with the contract are the hatchery test results of the fish waste, documenting the nutrient analysis in it.
