About this file

This file is a contract renewal letter from Waste Management Inc. of Florida to the City of Homestead regarding the renewal of recycling services under Contract #19-SW-0048. Waste Management requests renewal of the agreement through February 10, 2026, with modifications to the processing and transfer fees based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustments. The letter indicates that the original agreement allows for additional renewal terms and that Waste Management desires to continue providing services. The renewal would eliminate the requirement for Waste Management to conduct composition studies during the renewal term unless the company determines in its sole discretion to perform them. The letter includes supporting documentation showing the 4.2% CPI calculation based on the twelve-month period ending August 2024, which adjusts the processing fee from $116.08 to $120.96 per ton and the transfer fee from $13.72 to $14.30 per ton, resulting in combined processing and transfer fees of $135.26 per ton effective February 11, 2025.

The pricing modifications are substantiated by Consumer Price Index data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, specifically referencing the Water, Sewer & Trash Index. The letter is addressed to NZeribe Ihekwaba, PhD, PE, City Manager of Homestead, and requires signature approval from the City Manager or designee to finalize the renewal agreement. The document serves as formal notification of Waste Management's intent to exercise renewal rights under the existing contract and establishes the adjusted service rates for the upcoming renewal term commencing February 11, 2025.

• No additional composition studies will be made by Waste Management during the renewal term unless Waste Management determines in its sole discretion to perform same.

Please fee free to reach out to me at any time if I may be of any assistance to the City of Homestead for solid waste and/or recycling services.
