SECTION 01010

SUMMARY OF WORK AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Description of Work: Work for the Quemado Old Office and Shop roofs shall include demolition and disposal of existing roofs of each building. Demolition will may include decking which has been damaged for replacement. Any damaged decking shall be brought to the attention of the COR and additional repairs may be needed (change order may be required for substantial damage). Once sub-roofing is in acceptable shape, contractor shall replace with new metal roofing, brown in color on each building. Included with new metal roof shall be a synthetic polypropylene underlayment as recommended by manufacturer. Work shall also include provisions for all penetrations and all other trim as required for a complete roof replacement. Contractor shall replace existing fascia with new metal fascia. For the shop roof, existing skylights shall be covered with new roof with no skylights left upon completion. Any existing penetrations which are not needed shall be abandoned and roofed over. Approximate roof dimensions of shop roof is 1,950 SF and Old Office is 880 SF (to be verified by contractor).

1. DEMOLITION: Work shall include removal of existing roofing. The Shop has an existing metal roofing and the Old Office has shingles. Care shall be taken to ensure no damage is done to surrounding penetrations or other items on the roof. Any damage shall be repaired. Contractor shall, upon removal of roofing, inspect existing decking and remove all damaged decking for replacement for a proper underlayment for new metal roof. Any damaged decking shall be reported to the COR prior to removal and an agreed upon change order price shall be used for replacement of decking.

2. DECKING: Upon completion of demolition, any required decking which is suitable for metal roof overlayment, shall be properly installed for new metal roof. Any decking required shall be brought to the attention of the COR and an agreed upon change order price shall be instituted prior to replacement.

3. NEW ROOF INSTALLATION: Upon completion of demolition and inspection / replacement of decking, contractor shall install a new brown metal roof as described in specifications. All roofing shall be secure and prevent water penetration. All roofing shall include provisions for penetrations. Included with new metal roof shall be a synthetic polypropylene underlayment as recommended by manufacturer. For shop roof, all existing skylights (12 total) shall be adequately decked over and covered with new roof. Any penetrations no longer needed shall also be covered with new roofing. Contractor shall replace all trim associated with roof such as the facia and soffits and it shall be brown in color, a minimum of 24 gauge.

B. Location: Work under this contract is located in Quemado, Catron County, New

Mexico.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Code and Standards: The work shall comply with codes and standards applicable to each type of work and as listed in the individual sections of these specifications. This Contract incorporates materials, applications, and tests by reference, with the same force and effect as if they were given in full text.

B. Conflict: Where a conflict occurs between reference documents and project specifications, the project specifications shall govern.

C. Measurements: Contractor shall be responsible for all final measurements..

1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery: The Contractor shall protect products, incorporated into the work, from damage while in transit to the site. Products must be delivered in original unopened containers with manufacturers’ name and brand designation and contents legibly indicated. The containers shall bear the referenced specification number, type and class as applicable.

B. Storage: The Contractor shall provide temporary storage facilities for products complying with manufacturers’ recommendations that will protect them from damage until installation of the project and final acceptance. The storage area shall permit access for inspection and handling.

C. Handling: The Contractor shall load and unload products in such manner that protects them from damage until installation on the project.

1.05 PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS

A. Access to the Work: Contractor shall coordinate with District for all access to the site.

1.06 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING

A. Requirements: The Contractor shall be responsible for operations necessary to complete the work, including coordination with regular district operations. Work shall be scheduled in such a manner as to avoid delays in overall construction and permit proper installation of work.

1.07 MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS

A. The organization of these specifications into Divisions, Sections and Articles, and the arrangement of the drawings, shall not control the Contractor in dividing the work among subcontractors or in establishing the extent of work to be performed by any trade.

B. Do not scale any drawings. Rely on printed dimensions.

C. Field verification of scale dimensions is required since actual locations, distances, and levels will be governed by actual field conditions.

1.08 UTILITY CONNECTIONS

A. Electrical Service: Existing electrical service to the building. Contractor shall be responsible for all necessary connections.

B. Water Service: Contractor shall be responsible for extending existing supply to all necessary points of use.

1.09 CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE AND PROGRESS CHARTS:

A. Within 10 days after receipt of Notice to Proceed, the Contractor shall prepare and submit to the Contracting Officer’s Representative for approval a practicable progress schedule.

The schedule shall show the order in which the Contractor proposes to carry on the work, the date of which he will start the several major activities (including procurement of materials, plants, and equipment), and the contemplated dates for completing same. The schedule shall be in the form of a progress chart of suitable scale to indicate graphically the percentages of work scheduled for completion at any time. As the Work progresses, the Contractor shall enter on the chart the actual progress at the end of each partial payment period or at such intervals as directed by the Contracting Officer’s Representative. The Contractor shall also revise the schedule to reflect any adjustments in contract time approved by the Contracting Officer’s Representative. Three copies of the updated schedule shall be delivered at such intervals as directed by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

B. If, in the opinion of the Contracting Officer’s Representative, the work accomplished falls behind that schedule, the Contractor shall take such action as necessary to improve his progress. In addition, the Contracting Officer’s Representative may require the Contractor to submit a revised schedule demonstrating his program and proposed plan to make up lag in scheduled progress and to insure completion of work within the contract time. If the Contracting Officer’s Representative finds the proposed plan not acceptable, he may require the Contractor to submit a new plan. If a satisfactory plan is not agree upon, the Contracting Officer’s Representative may require the Contractor to increase the work force, the construction plan and equipment, or the number of work shifts, without additional cost to the Owner.

C. Failure of the Contractor to comply with these requirements shall be considered grounds for determination by the Contracting Officer’s Representative that the Contractor is failing to prosecute the work with such diligence as will insure its completion within the time specified.

1.10 CUTTING AND PATCHING: In addition to the requirements of the General Conditions, Contractor shall perform all cutting and patching required to remove and replace work not conforming to the requirements of the Contract Documents, to uncover ill-timed work for inspection, to replace defective work, to make parts fit properly, etc., and shall:

A. Perform all cutting and patching in strict accordance with pertinent requirements of these Specifications and, in the event no such requirements are determined, in conformance with the Contracting Officer’s Representative’s written direction.

B. Prior to cutting which affects structural safety, submit written request to the Contracting

Officer’s Representative for permission to proceed with cutting.

C. Prior to cutting and patching performed pursuant to the Contracting Officer’s

Representative’s instructions, submit cost estimate to the Contracting Officer’s Representative. Secure the Contracting Officer’s Representative’s approval of cost estimates and type of cost reimbursement before proceeding with cutting and patching.

D. Submit written notice to the Contracting Officer’s Representative designating time the work will be uncovered, to provide for the Contracting Officer’s Representative’s observation.

E. Perform all other cutting and patching needed to comply with the Contract Documents at no additional cost to the Forest. (The Forest will reimburse the contractor for cutting and patching performed pursuant to the Contracting Officer’s Representative’s written request after claim for such reimbursement is submitted by the Contractor.)

1.11 RECORD DRAWINGS: In accordance with the requirements of the General Conditions, the

Contracting Officer’s Representative will provide the contractor with a set of reproducible drawings to the original bidding documents, as required and at contractor’s expense, as follows:

A. If the Contractor elects to vary from the Contract Documents, and secures prior approval of the Contracting Officer’s Representative, for any phase of the work other than those listed below, he shall record in a neat readable manner all such variances on the reproducible drawings furnished.

B. The following requirements apply to all Record Drawings.

1. They shall be maintained at the Contractor’s expense.

2. All such drawings shall be done carefully and neatly by a competent draftsman and inform approved by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

3. Additional drawings shall be provided as necessary for clarification.

4. They shall be kept up-to-date during the entire course of the work and shall be available on request for examination by the Contracting Officer’s Representative and, when necessary, to establish clearances for other parts of the work.

5. The Record Drawings shall be returned to the Contracting Officer’s Representative on completion of the work and are subject to the approval of the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

1.12 TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION AND SERVICES: The Contractor shall provide the following specific items of temporary construction and services:

A. Temporary Water:

1. Water as required in the performance of the Contract shall be available at the site and paid for by the Forest. Contractor shall practice prudent use of water.

2. Contractor shall furnish and install all mains, laterals, branch lines and service pipings and fittings to supply temporary water in sufficient quantity as required to locations of the building and shall bear costs of making the service connections at approved locations. Temporary connections and piping shall be removed and all openings closed at the end of the work.

B. Temporary Electric Service:

1. Electricity required in the performance of the Contract shall be available at the site and paid for by the Forest. Contractor shall practice prudent use of electricity.

C. Contractor may use existing toilet facilities. Contractor shall maintain facilities in a clean and neat condition.

D. Temporary Closures: Contractor shall erect temporary closures over openings when weather conditions render such action necessary for proper installation of any portion of the work. The Contractor shall also install temporary partitions as shown or required to separate work under construction from areas occupied by the District.

E. Protection of Work in Place: Work in place that is subject to injury because of operations carried on adjacent thereto shall be covered, boarded up or substantially enclosed with adequate protection. Permanent openings used as thoroughfares for the introduction of work and materials to the structure shall have heads, jambs and sills well blocked and boarded. All forms of protection shall be constructed in such manner that on completion the entire work will be delivered to Forest in unblemished condition.

F. Temporary Fire Protection: Contractor shall provide and maintain fire extinguishers, fire hoses and other equipment necessary for fire protection during construction. Such equipment shall be used for fire protection only.

G. Signs: No signs will be permitted on the Project except the project sign, identifying captions over offices, certain directional and warning signs required for safety and protection. Contractor shall take all necessary steps to prevent installation of any unauthorized signs, and, should any appear, cause them to be removed immediately, and repair and repaint any damage caused thereby without additional cost to the Owner.

H. Scaffolds and Runways: Contractor shall furnish, erect and maintain for duration of the

Work as required, all scaffolds, runways, guard rails, platforms and similar temporary construction as may be necessary for performance of the Contract. Such facilities shall be of type and arrangement as required for their specific use; shall be substantially constructed throughout, strongly supported, well secured, and shall comply with all applicable rules and regulations of applicable State and local codes.

I. Temporary Buildings: All temporary buildings shall be maintained in a neat orderly appearance for the duration of the Work.

J. Removal of Temporary Construction: Temporary office facilities, toilets, storage sheds, and other construction of a temporary nature shall be removed from the site as soon as the progress of the Work will permit; and the portions of the site occupied by the same shall be properly restored.

1.13 CLEANING UP: In addition to other provisions of the Specifications, the following shall be required:

A. Besides the “removal of waste materials,” the following special cleaning shall be required just prior to acceptance.

1. Use only the cleaning materials and equipment, which are compatible with the surface being cleaned, as recommended by the manufacturer of the material or as approved by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

B. In addition to the clean-up provisions of the Specifications, the Contractor shall take appropriate steps to prevent airborne dust due to the Work of the Contract. Water shall be applied wherever practical to settle and hold dust to a minimum, particularly during excavation and moving of materials.

1.14 EXAMINATION OF SITE

A. Bidders are requested to visit the site, compare the drawings and specifications with any work in place, and inform themselves of all conditions, including other work, if any, being performed. Failure to visit sites will in no way relieve the successful bidder from necessity of furnishing any materials or performing any work that may be required to complete work in accordance with drawings and specifications, without additional cost to the Forest.

B. Information respecting the site of the work given in drawings or specification is believed to be reasonably correct, but the Forest does not warrant either the completeness of accuracy of such information, and it is the responsibility of the contractor to verify all such information independently and to make such other examination of the conditions to be encountered during construction.

C. The Contractor acknowledges that he has investigated and satisfied himself as to the conditions affecting the work, including, but not restricted to, those bearing upon transportation, disposal, handling and storage of materials, availability of labor, water, electric power, roads and uncertainties and conditions of the ground, the character of equipment and facilities needed preliminary to and during prosecution of the work. The Contractor further acknowledges that he has satisfied himself to the character, quality, and quantity of surface and subsurface materials or obstacles to be encountered insofar as this information is reasonably ascertainable from an inspection of the sites. Any failure by the Contractor to acquaint himself with the available information will not relieve him from responsibility for estimating properly the difficulty or cost of successfully performing the work. The Forest assumes no responsibility for any conclusions or interpretations made by the Contractor on the basis of the information made available by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL

A. (See specific section for applicable requirements).

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 PROTECTION

A. Damage: Repair of damage to new construction and equipment or existing utilities resulting from construction procedures, shall not be initiated prior to notification of the

B. Right-of-Way: Existing utility lines shall have the right-of-way over all other lines, and all lines encountered by the Contractor shall be carefully maintained in proper alignment.

Should the Contractor find that the grades of new utility lines intersect existing utility lines, he shall stop the laying of the new lines until new grades are established.

C. Repairs: The Contractor shall repair damages to any new or existing active utility above or below ground, whether indicated on the drawings or not, and immediately report such damage to the Contracting Officer’s Representative. All costs of repair for damages due to the Contractor’s negligence will be paid by the Contractor.

SECTION 02040

DEMOLITION

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. Work shall include removal of existing shingle roofing on the Old Office and metal roof on the Shop. Care shall be taken to ensure no damage is done to surrounding penetrations or other items on the roof. Any damage shall be repaired. Contractor shall, upon removal of roofing, inspect existing decking and remove all damaged decking for replacement for a proper underlayment for new metal roof. Any damaged decking shall be reported to the COR prior to removal and an agreed upon change order price shall be used for replacement of decking. Repair and resurface all disturbed areas using compatible materials to match adjacent surfaces in hardness and texture.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Contractor shall coordinate construction procedures and schedule with Contracting Officer’s Representative and shall comply with all applicable requirements found in the Construction Documents.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 DISPOSITION OF MATERIALS

A. Remove all materials or debris resulting from demolition operation from the site promptly.

No accumulation of debris will be permitted.

B. Do not burn wood and inflammable debris resulting from demolition operations on the site.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 PREPARATION

A. Plan all work in advance, informing Contracting Officer’s Representative of procedure and schedule.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Protect existing buildings and adjacent surfaces, features, and property. Restore to original condition all work damaged or otherwise made defective in appearance or function by the execution of required work under this contract. Interference with ’s use of Forest’s existing buildings and facilities shall be kept to a minimum and all work resulting in such interference shall be performed at a time approved beforehand by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

B. Remove all work carefully and only to the extent required for the final work. Remove all loose or damaged materials, caused by demolition, noted or specified to be removed.

C. Conduct all operations with a minimum of noise.

D. Where openings are to be cut in existing structures; cut such openings with care. Where materials, equipment, frames, etc., are to be removed, remove such items with care to minimize damage to adjacent materials. Structural shoring and/or bracing may be necessary for safety reasons and to prevent structural collapse.

E. Sawcutting is permitted. The use of pneumatic or electric hammers for demolition and cutting purposes will require prior approval of the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

F. After the demolition work in any area is completed, clean the area before any new construction is started.

G. Any abandoned utilities to be terminated at floor, walls, ceilings, and other locations shall be capped securely within floor, wall, or ceiling, tested by Contractor and approved by Contracting Officer’s Representative before being covered. After approval, areas shall be patched and finished to match adjacent surfaces. Utility connections include, but are not limited to, water, electric, phone, computer, drains, vents, and other utilities.

H. Walls and structural elements to be removed may consist of concrete masonry units, plaster, concrete, metal, wood, or other materials. All repairs shall be made with materials to match adjacent.

3.03 PROTECTION

A. Take reasonable and adequate precautions to protect the Forest’s property from damage during demolition work, moving of debris, and damage by the elements. Restore any damage to Forest property due to the aforesaid work or replace in a manner satisfactory to the Contracting Officer’s Representative.

B. Provide and maintain suitable barricades, shelters, lights, and danger signals during the progress of the work. They shall meet the requirements of the applicable building codes, safety codes & regulations. Assume the responsibility of barriers to completion of contract and remove same.

SECTION 06100

ROUGH CARPENTRY

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. Work under this Section includes furnishing and installation of all miscellaneous wood as required to repair or replace any required decking for new roof.

B. Work under this Section shall also include, but shall not be limited to: scaffolding, runways, temporary protection of construction, temporary enclosures, plywood, furring, blocking, nailing strips and rough hardware.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The following standards shall be used as they apply to products specified:

1. Lumber, boards and framing: West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau, latest edition.

2. Plywood shall meet U.S. Product Standard PS-1 and be grade stamped by

American Plywood Association.

3. Lumber treatment shall conform to standards of the American Wood Preservers

Association (AWPA) of the Society of American Wood Preservers. Inc. (AWPI).

4. Fasteners shall be made from carbon steel or carbon steel wire conforming to

ASTM A-307 and as detailed in AISC Manual.

5. Uniform Building Code, latest edition.

B. All lumber and plywood shall have a factory-applied grade stamp indicating grade, mill and species.

C. Lumber moisture content: (treated or untreated) Not more than 16 percent for framing lumber 2-inches and less and boards 8-inches and less in width. Boards wider than 8-inches in width or more than 2-inches thick must not be more than 19 percent.

1.03 DELIVERY AND STORAGE

A. Delivery and storage: Lumber delivered to the site shall be carefully piled off the ground in such a manner as to insure proper drainage, ventilation and protection from the weather. Sufficient support and stacking methods shall be provided as to prevent warping and sets. The Contractor shall assume the risk of all materials and shall store at the site in approved weather-tight enclosures only. Material shall not be brought into the building until work preceding its use is completed and dry.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS

A. Lumber shall conform to the following grades for uses noted. For uses not specified or noted in detail, furnish at least “Standard” grade material.

1. Material over 8-feet long shall be Light Framing Construction Grade as defined in paragraph 122-B of the Standard Grading Rules for West Coast Lumber.

B. Plywood and Structural Panels

1. Telephone backboard: ¾” Thick, A-D interior Group 1.

C. Miscellaneous Materials (to be used where specified or applicable)

1. Fasteners

a. Nails shall be standard common wire nails meeting Federal Specification FF-S-101 unless otherwise specified.

b. Wood screws shall meet Federal Specifications FF-S-11.

c. Lag bolts shall meet Federal Specification FF-B-561.

d. Expansion bolts shall be wedge type anchors, as manufactured by

Phillips Drill Company.

e. Bolts and nuts shall meet ASTM A307.

f. Miscellaneous clamps. Washers, and spacers: all of steel or iron, standard types and manufacture.

g. Power driven connectors shall be “Ramset” or accepted equal.

h. All fasteners and nails exposed to the exterior shall be galvanized.

i. Wood connectors and clips shall be galvanized sheet steel. All connectors and clips shall be of type for use intended and sized to support the load imposed based on the manufacturer’s load tables.

Simpson Co., or accepted equal.

D. Preservative Treated Lumber

1. All wood products that are within twelve inches of the finish grade, in contact with concrete or masonry, or in contact with or below the finish grade shall be pressure treated with Pentachlorophenol preservative. Treat in accordance with AWPB Quality Standard LP44 with Pentachlorophenol to a net retention of 0.60 lbs per cu. Ft. Kiln dried after impregnation.

a. Treated materials cut after treatment shall have such surfaces well brush- coated with two (2) coats of the same preservative used in the original treatment but having a concentration of 3 to 5 times greater than the initial treating solution.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 GENERAL

A. Nailing and bolting shall conform to specifications by the National Lumber Manufacturers Association manual for House Framing and the Manual of Acceptable Practices, 1973 Edition, by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Chapter 6, and with Table 25-Q of the Uniform Building Code, latest edition, copies of which are to be furnished by the Contractor and be at the project site.

B. All work shall conform to OSHA requirements.

3.02 LAYOUT

A. Layout framing to coordinate with other trades. Verify location of plumbing and electrical fixtures that may affect framing.

3.03 INSTALLATION

A. Framing

1. All framing shall be square, plumb, true to line and level or as detailed. All joints to be cut cleanly and fit tightly, and securely fastened. Discard material, which has defects, which would impair service intended. Furnish all bridging, blocking, fire stops, mailers, furring, etc., detailed or required to complete the job. Provide all rough bucks, nailers, grounds and backing throughout to properly support all cabinets, hardware, woodwork, trim, fixtures, accessories and all other items shown or required. Coordinate with other trades for rough-in dimensions.

2. Wall, floor, and ceiling surfaces shall not be used for attaching the above items unless backed by structural plywood and then only as approved by the Contracting Officer’s Representative, or unless detailed accordingly. Provide all required openings with wood bucks and securely anchor. Set bucks plumb and true to receive finished frames.

3. Box nails may be used for all miscellaneous interior nailing. All nails for exterior use shall be galvanized. Framing anchors shall be fastened by nails provided by the framing anchor manufacturer. Spikes and nails shall penetrate ½ their length except 16d nails may be used to connect 2” material to 2” material. Where necessary, pilot drill before nailing to avoid splitting.

4. Do not cut framing members for passage of pipes or conduits without Contracting Officer’s Representative’s permission.

B. Power driven connectors: all wood to steel, wood to masonry or concrete, sheet metal to steel and sheet metal to masonry or concrete connections (unless otherwise detailed) shall be made with power driven connectors with quantity and spacing not more than 2 feet 8 inches o.c. Use following sizes: 2X to structural steel # 3345, fill 2 inches to block/concrete # 3479, 2X to block/concrete # 3300, sheet metal to structural steel # 2326 or # 2327, sheet metal to concrete or block # 3336. Reference numbers refer to Ramset fasteners. Acceptable equals will be allowed. Reference numbers refer to Ramset fasteners. Acceptable equals are manufactured by Hilti, Speed, Remington, & Omark.

3.03 TOLERANCES

A. Maximum deviation from a plumb and level plane shall not exceed 1:500 for walls and floors. Maximum permissible variation for entire length shall not exceed 1” from plan dimensions and elevations.

B. Maximum permissible crook for the various framing members shall be light as defined in the Standard Grading Rules for West Coast Lumber Current issue, Chapter 13.

C. Maximum permissible straight-line variation between and 3 studs measured at a point midway between top and bottom plates shall not exceed ¼”.

SECTION 07420

PREFORMED METAL ROOF PANELS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. Furnish all material, labor and equipment to complete the installation of preformed metal roof panel systems as specified herein. Included with new metal roof shall be a synthetic polypropylene underlayment as recommended by manufacturer. Installation shall include all metal trim, fasteners, perimeter and penetration flashing, closures and other devices for secure anchorage of panels to substructure provided for this purpose. Any items, such as satellite dishes, detached shall be reattached upon completion. Roof and trim will be brown in color. Work shall include all facias and soffits also brown in color to match roof.

B. Related work specified elsewhere:

1. Documents affecting work of this Section include, but are not necessarily limited to, General Conditions, Supplementary Conditions, and Sections in Division 1 of these Specifications.

1.03 SUBMITTALS

A. Product data: Include manufacturer’s detailed material and system description, sealant and closure installation instructions, engineering performance data and finish specifications.

1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Manufacturer’s responsibility:

1. Protect components during fabrication and packing from mechanical abuse, stains, discoloration, and corrosion.

2. Provide protective interleaving between contact areas of exposed surfaces to prevent abrasion during shipment, storage, and handling.

B. Installer’s responsibility:

1. Store materials off ground providing for drainage; under cover providing for air circulation; and protected from wind movement, foreign material contamination, mechanical damage, cement, lime or other corrosive substances.

2. Handle materials to prevent damage to surface, edges and ends of roofing sheets and sheet metal items. Damaged material shall be rejected and removed from the site.

3. Protect panels from wind-related damages.

4. Inspect materials upon delivery. Reject and remove physically damaged or marred material from project site.

1.05 JOB CONDITIONS

A. Determine that work of other trades will not hamper or conflict with necessary fabrication and storage requirements for preformed metal roofing system.

B. Protection of Roof system:

1. Provide protection or avoid traffic on completed roof surfaces.

2. Do not overload roof with stored material.

3. Do not support roof-mounted equipment directly on roofing system.

C. Ascertain that work of other trades, which penetrates the roof and is to be made watertight by approved methods prior to installation of metal roof panels.

b. B209-86 - Specification for Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Sheet & Plate.

c. A446-83 - Specification for Steel Sheet Zinc-coated (galvanized) by the

Hot-Dip process, structural (physical) quality.

3. Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA):

1993 Architectural Sheet Metal Manual, 5th edition.

B. Fabrication/Installer Qualifications:

1. Fabricator/Installer shall have trained supervisory personnel observing and directing work.

2. If required, fabricator/installer shall submit work experience and evidence of adequate financial responsibility. Contracting Officer’s Representative reserves the right to inspect fabrication facilities in determining qualifications.

1.07 WARRANTY

A. Provide twenty-year warranty for exterior pre-finished surfaces, covering pre-finished color coat against chipping, cracking or crazing, leaks, blistering, peeling, chalking, or fading.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURERS

METAL ROOF SYSTEM

A. Basis for specification: Roof Panel System as manufactured Mueller or as approved in advance by Contracting Officer’s Representative.

B. Roof Covering System:

1. Includes: Exterior roof panels, panel attachments, roof accessories, sealants, mastics, trim and flashing as required.

2. Panel Rib System

a. 26-Ga. 80,000-psi steel w/ capillary groove.

b. Silicone polyester finish, 20 year warranty

2.02 ACCESSORY PRODUCTS

A. Sealant:

Concealed and Exposed applications.

2.03 FABRICATION

A. Shop fabricate metal panels and flashing components to the maximum extent possible, forming metal work with clear, sharp, straight, and uniform bends and rises. Hem exposed edges of flashings.

B. Form flashing components from full single width sheet in minimum 10’-0” sections.

Provide shop fabricated, mitered corners, joined using closed end pop rivets and joint sealant.

C. Fabricate metal panels and related sheet metal work in accordance with approved shop drawings and applicable standards.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 PREPARATION

A. Inspection: Examine the alignment and placement of the building structure and substrate. Correct any objectionable warp, waves or buckles in the substrate before proceeding with installation of the preformed metal roofing.

3.02 METAL ROOF PANEL SYSTEM INSTALLATION

A. Install metal panel system and flashings in accordance with approved shop drawings and manufacturer’s product data.

B. Isolate dissimilar metals and masonry or concrete from metals with bituminous coating.

Use gasketed fasteners where required to prevent corrosive action between fastener, substrate, and panels.

C. Seal laps and joints in accordance with metal panel system manufacturer’s product data.

D. Coordinate flashing and sheet metal work to provide weathertight conditions at all penetrations and terminations.

1. Fabricate and install in accordance with standards of SMACNA Manual.

2. Provide for temperature expansion/contraction movement of panels at all penetrations and surface mounted equipment in accordance with system manufacturer’s product data and design calculations

E. Remove damaged work and replace with new, undamaged components.

F. Touch up exposed panel surface finish using paint furnished by metal panel manufacturer and matching exposed metal panel surface finish.

G. Clean exposed surfaces of metal panels and accessories after completion of installation.

Leave in clean condition at date of substantial completion. Touch up minor abrasions and scratches in finish.

H. Unless there are special cases for penetrations, paneling shall be continuous with no intermediate splices or laps.

3.03 FLASHING AND TRIM

A. Supply at rakes, including peak and corner assemblies, high and low eaves, corners bases, framed openings, and edge of fascia and as required to provide for weather tightness and finished appearance.

SOFFIT PANELS

A. Soffis shall use same material as for roofs or equivalent materials approved by

Contracting Officer’s Representative.

3.05 GUTTER AND DOWNSPOUT FABRICATION

A. No gutters or downspouts required.
