(1) Meet the processing requirements of AASHTO M 43, Table 1 – Standard Sizes of Processed Aggregate.
(2) These air contents apply to the total mix. When testing these concretes, aggregates larger than 1½ inches is removed by handpicking or sieving, and air content is determined on the minus 1½ inches fraction of the mix. Air content of the total mix is computed from the value determined on the minus 1½ inches fraction.
(3) For P(AE) concrete, reduce the as delivered minimum air content by 1.0 % and use a maximum air content of 6.0 percent.

552.03 Measuring Material. Add the following:
Synthetic Fiber -3%, +5%
552.07 Mixing. Amend as follows:
Add the following to paragraph (a):
Add synthetic fibers with the aggregates or immediately after aggregates are introduced into the mixer. Prevent fibers from clumping before entering the mixer.
Add the following to paragraph (b):
Add synthetic fibers last. Do not add clumped fibers. Rotate mixer drum fast enough to disperse fibers as they are added to the mixer. After all fibers have been introduced into the mixer, slow to rated mixing speed and mix for a minimum of 40 revolutions or until the fibers are homogeneously mixed.
552.08 Delivery. Delete paragraph (a) and substitute the following:
(a) Truck mixer/agitator. Use the agitating speed for all rotation after mixing. When a truck mixer or truck agitator is used to transport concrete that is completely mixed in a stationary central construction mixer, mix during transportation at manufacturer's recommended agitating speed.
If the concrete has not obtained an initial set, water and admixtures in the approved mix design may be added one time at the project to obtain the required slump or air content. The total of all water in the mix shall not exceed the maximum water/cement ratio of the approved mix design. Add synthetic fibers last. Do not add clumped fibers. Rotate mixer drum fast enough to disperse fibers as they are added to the mixer. Remix the concrete and added water or admixtures with 30 revolutions at mixing speed. If fibers were added, slow to rated mixing speed and mix for a minimum of 40 revolutions or until the fibers are homogenously mixed.
After the initial introduction of mixing water to cement or cement to aggregates, complete the remixing within the time specified in Table 552-4. After the beginning of the addition of the cement, complete the discharge of the concrete within the time specified in Table 552-4.
Do not exceed 130 total revolutions at mixing speed, including both initial mixing and remixing. Do not exceed 300 total revolutions, including both mixing and agitating speed.
552.09 Quality Control of Mix. Delete the text of paragraph (b)(4) and substitute the following:
(4) Take samples according to AASHTO T 141 from specified loads. Composite samples are not required. The point of sampling is from the discharge stream at the point of placement. Provide cylinder molds. Make at least 4 compressive strength test cylinders for 6-inch by 12-inch specimens or 5 compressive strength cylinders for 4-inch by 8-inch, F-12d provide the appropriate initial curing, and carefully transport the cylinders to the project curing facility. Two 6-inch by 12-inch or three 4-inch by 8-inch cylinders will be used for 28-day compressive strength tests. The remaining cylinders will be used for verification, projected strengths, or other purposes specified. Assist in the performing of other tests as requested.
After initial curing, furnish and maintain a suitable environment to cure cylinders according to WFLHD T 23-94. Provide suitable containers to protect and continue the curing of cylinders while transporting. Deliver cylinders to the Vancouver Laboratory according to Subsection 154.02. Cylinders will be tested at 7, 14, and 28 days from the date molded. Ensure cylinders arrive at the Vancouver Laboratory at least 1 day before the designated test date.
552.12 Construction Joints. Delete the third paragraph and substitute the following:
When the joint is between two fresh concrete placements, rough float the first placement to thoroughly consolidate the surface and leave the surface in a roughened condition. Clean the joint surface of laitance, curing compound, and other foreign material. Use an abrasive blast or other approved method to expose the aggregate on the joint surface. Re-tighten forms where the joint overlaps the first placement. Immediately before placing new concrete, flush the joint surface with water and allow to dry to a surface dry condition.
552.14 Finishing Plastic Concrete. Amend as follows:
Add the following to the first paragraph of 552.14(c):
Provide a grooved finish on synthetic fiber concrete.
Add the following to the first paragraph of 552.14(c)(1):
Saw grooved finish on synthetic fiber concrete.
552.16 Finishing Formed Concrete Surfaces. (Added paragraph).
(h) Class 8 - Refinishing. Clean and refinish according to the appropriate class any concrete surfaces which are exposed to view (e.g., piers, columns, web walls, etc.) and have become streaked and unsightly due to spilled mortar, leaching, or some other cause.
552.19 Acceptance. Delete the fourth paragraphs and substitute the following:
Concrete compressive strength will be evaluated under Subsection 106.05. The lower specification limit is the minimum required compressive strength at 28 days (fc’) specified in the contract. A single compressive strength test result is the average result from 2 6-inch by 12-inch cylinders or 3 4-inch by 8-inch cylinders cast from the same load and tested at 28 days.
