RRCIU Kit
b. Field Installation Procedures
Field upgrade kit instructions to bring NBP RRCIU units up to FA-16100 baseline
Background:
RRCIU units produced by New Bedford Panoramex (NBP) do not comply with the FAA RRCIU baseline. This kit brings the NBP units into compliance. After the kit is installed, the RRCIU will be identified as type FA-16100. The only difference between the reworked units and other FA-
16100 units will be the power supply. The power supply installed in the NBP units is retained and documented as an acceptable alternate configuration. This power supply, however , will not be stocked by Logistics. The kit includes a power supply mounting plate which has mounting holes for the power supply NBP installed in their units and for the power supply used in all other
FA-16100 RRCIUs. So, if a power supply should fail, the replacement will be the baselined power supply, not the one installed by NBP.

Tools required:
Standard slotted (common) and Phillips screwdrivers.
Rework instructions:
1. Turn off power to the RRCIU unit and comply with local lockout/tagout procedures to prevent accidental restoration of power during the modification process.
2. Remove all wiring that connects to the RRCIU circuit board.
3. Remove the backplate assembly (with circuit board and power supply mounted) from the
RRCIU cabinet.
4. Remove the old nameplate and retain the mounting hardware.
5. Attach the new nameplate using the mounting hardware retained in step 4.
6. Attach the new door decal directly over the old door decal.
7. Remove the power supply from the backplate assembly.
8. Install the power supply onto the new backplate using the Power Supply Mounting Plate supplied with this kit.
9. Attach power supply wires to the new circuit board per Table 1.
Table 1 – Power Supply to Circuit Board Wiring
Description Power Supply
Terminal
Circuit Board
Terminal
Power Supply DC Positive Out + TB3-1
Power Supply DC Negative Out - TB3-2
AC Neutral 4 TB3-3
AC 120 V 1 TB3-4
10. Install the new baseplate assembly into the RRCIU cabinet.
11. Connect the external wiring per Figure 1.
NOTE: The wires from the ground-to-ground decoder and air-to-ground receiver (circuit board TB1) will be exactly the same as for the old circuit board. The wires to/from the MALSR control cabinet and RMS will differ slightly. Pay close attention to Figure
1 for correct wiring.
12. Remove the relays from the old circuit board at locations K1 thru K7 and install them on the new circuit board in locations K4 thru K10.
13. Remove the relays from the old circuit board at locations K8 thru K10 and install them on the new circuit board at locations K1 thru K3.
14. Restore power to the RRCIU.
15. Perform the Quarterly Performance Check per paragraph 6.3.2 of TIB 6850.91.
16. When the performance check has been successfully completed, the RRCIU is ready to be returned to service.
17. The old nameplate, backplate, power supply mounting plate and circuit board are scrap.
Dispose of these items according to procedures.
