Text version
Nanometrics manufactures the quietest borehole sensors at long periods (2001000 second periods) which is also less than 6 inches in diameter, verified by testing at the USGS Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory. This sensor is the only sensor that meets the government's minimum needs. The Nanometrics digitizers are the only digitizers available that stream 6 channels of data using seedlink protocol and these are the only digitizers that will fit as replacements in the volcano monitoring systems. Nanometrics also produces the only 6 channel integrated sensors that are required by the USGS volcano program and VDAP programs.

8. The Efforts to Identify Additional Sources Including the Market Research Conducted.
The government currently has contracts with multiple equipment vendors and is in regular contact with vendors in regard to the state of the art of new equipment. The government works with vendors to test new equipment as it is developed. The government attends conferences where vendors have public displays of their latest equipment. The government conducts internet research to identify any possible new equipment sources.
A sources sought announcement was issued on September 17, 2018 with a response date of October 1, 2018. Two responses were received from interested parties and technical evaluations were performed. The findings of the technical evaluations concluded only Nanometrics equipment can meet the minimum needs of the Government discussed in paragraphs 3 and 6 above.
9. Future Plans to Permit Competition. The government will continue to attend conferences where vendors have public displays of their latest equipment. The government will continue internet research to identify any possible new equipment sources.
