Contract Summary

This is a contract award document from the University of Nebraska System (UNO - University of Nebraska at Omaha) for professional study abroad services with American Universities International Programs Limited (AUIP), a New Zealand-based company. The contract was executed in January 2026 and includes a Master Service Agreement effective January 12, 2022, with an amendment dated September 30, 2025, to add a specific summer 2026 program. Services include housing, ground transportation, flights, excursions, program itineraries, 24/7 emergency support, and student evaluations. The total contract value is $104,195, with student program fees ranging from $4,045 to $4,520 per participant depending on enrollment (10-15 students). The program includes 21 days of study across three locations: Christchurch and surrounding areas in New Zealand (7 nights), Sydney, Australia (7 nights), and Cairns, Australia (6 nights). A group flight is arranged through Scholartrip with costs of $2,560 per person including taxes and booking fees. The contract specifies that two faculty members attend at no additional charge, while any additional staff are charged standard program fees. Final enrollment and payment deadlines are March 1 and April 1, 2026, respectively.

The park is popular with locals as it provides opportunities for walking, mountain biking and orienteering, and has a large dog exercise area, a series of sister cities gardens ideal for a picnic, as well as a wetlands conservation area.

You will meet with park rangers and/or local organisations and volunteers who provide active community programs, working on preserving the park and the development of future recreational opportunities.

Kura Tāwhiti Conservation Area Castle Hill)

Castle Hill, Canterbury 7580, Castle Hill, New Zealand -

1 hour 30 minutes

The grand limestone rock battlements of Kura Tāwhiti led early European travellers to name the area Castle

Hill. This area has special significance to Ngāi Tahu, with ties that stretch unbroken from distant ancestors to present generations. Kura Tāwhiti has Tōpuni status, which is a legal recognition of the siteʼs sacredness and significance for the Ngāi Tahu tribe. The term comes from the traditional custom of chiefs extending power and authority over areas or people by placing a cloak over them.

Kura Tāwhiti literally means “the treasure from a distant land ,ˮ referring to the kūmara that was once cultivated in this region. Kura Tāwhiti was claimed by the Ngāi Tahu ancestor Tane Tiki, son of celebrated chief Tūāhuriri.

The nearby mountains were famed for kākāpō, and Tane Tiki wanted their soft skins and glowing green feathers for clothing to be worn by his daughter Hine Mihi.

Such stories link Ngāi Tahu to the landscape. The traditional knowledge of trails, rock shelters and rock drawings, and places for gathering kai (food) in the area known as Kura Tāwhiti form an integral part of past and present tribal identity. If you have the good fortune of seeing a kea, please view them from a distance and do not feed or tempt them with food in any manner.

Explore the extensive limestone formations. Please do not climb any formations both for safety and cultural reasons.

Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring warm and waterproof clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, a sunhat, any personal medications, water and additional snacks. Note that weather conditions can change rapidly in this alpine environment.

Punchbowl Creek, has a good view of the waterfall. From here, wander through lush beech forest with friendly fantails/pīwakawaka and tomtits before climbing 150m up a series of steps to a viewing platform at the base of this spectacular waterfall. Return on the same track.
