• New methodologies.

• New practices and procedures.
• Problems with existing products, materials, and equipment.
• Potential litigation and liability issues.
• Results of scientific studies.
Keeping current with the latest information and technology gives us a competitive advantage by keeping us prepared and ready to provide timely, relevant ant technically accurate work, reports, and specifications that meet current regulations, standards, and guidelines. Three examples, one each for asbestos, lead and mold are as follows:
• Asbestos – Maricopa County changed their Rule 370 NESHAP rules in 2022 incorporating several changes. Advance notice of the proposed changes and meetings discussing the changes were published by the Environmental Information Association well before the effective date. We knew the details of the regulatory changes well before the actual implementation.
• Lead-Based Paint – The US EPA revised the dust lead clearance levels (DLCLs) for lead dust on surfaces effective March 8, 2021. However, on May 14, 2021, the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals found that EPA lead standards were too high to protect children and ordered EPA to reevaluate lead in soil limits and to reevaluate the definition of lead-based paint from the current definition of 1.0 mg of lead per cm2 of paint (Case 19-71930, EPA No. EPA-HQ-OPPT2018-0166). Thus, the definition of lead-based paint will be changing in the not-too-distant future. We obtained this information through attendance at a meeting of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
• Mold – One of the most influential references used to develop mold assessment and remediation guidelines is the ACGIH Bioaerosols: Assessment and Control. This document was first published in 1999. A second edition is being released around September 2022 and was offered for presale to ACGIH members beginning July 2022. This reference is expected to contain updated information and recommendations for mold assessment and remediation. We were able to preorder this by membership in ACGIH.
