District Five

SunRail Data Intermediary (SDI) Development, Installation, and Integration

A. SCOPE OF SERVICE

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB) and their subconsultant IBI Group Professional Services (USA) Inc. will provide the following services related to SunRail Data Intermediary (SDI) Development, Installation and

Integration for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 5 (District).

PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this project to provide the District with SunRail Data Intermediary (SDI) Development, Installation and Integration

B. TASKS

TASK 1: SDI Development, Installation and Integration

Hidden Trains User Interface Requirements

Key Functionality:

• A simple UI with big buttons and large font that will allow dispatchers to hide and unhide real‐time information for train trips for a given day.

• Dispatchers will select a specific day on which the trip(s) they wish to hide or unhide operate.

• Dispatchers will select one or more trips that they wish to hide or unhide for the selected day and select the appropriate ‘hide’ or ‘unhide’ checkbox in the user interface and submit those changes.

• Upon submission of trips using a ‘submit’ button, the trip status will be written into a database on SunRail SDI server, and this action will be logged on the SDI server.

• If a trip has a ‘hidden’ value associated with it, real‐time and schedule data for that trip will not be displayed to customers and train arrival announcement indications will not be sent to the SunRail PA/VMS system.

UI Installation

A Microsoft Windows application will be installed as an application, copied across the network, saved in a special folder. The application will be registered as an installed application viewable in Add/Remove

Programs. Installation will require admin privileges. The UI will exist on the dispatchers’ utility workstation which has direct access through the CFRC network to the SunRail SDI server. Database authentication will be encrypted in the compiled application.

UI Execution

An icon will be placed on the Microsoft Windows Desktop as a shortcut to the application. The application will not require administrative privileges. An initial splash image will appear to provide feedback to the dispatcher that the application is loading. The splash image will transition to the Date

Selection dropdown.

Date Selection

Following application start up, a calendar dropdown menu will show the days on which train service is scheduled to run for the current day and next six calendar days. By default, the current (or next, if there is no service today) service date will be selected. Only one date will be allowed for selection. Once selected, the UI will transition to the Trip and Visibility Selection.

Service Date

2021‐10‐15

2021‐10‐18

2021‐10‐19

2021‐10‐20

2021‐10‐21

Trip and Visibility Selection

After a user selects a specific date, the user interface will display a list of the trips scheduled to operate that day, along with information about whether they are currently hidden. This table will also include a column that will allow users to select specific trips they wish to modify. After one or more trips is selected, users will have the opportunity to select whether they want the selected trips to be hidden or unhidden. The trips displayed for a particular day and their current status will be determined by a database script on the SDI server that is called each time a date is selected from the date selector.

Upon clicking Submit, the submissions request will be logged (date, time, and the change requested and submitted) in a log file on the SDI server, and the database table on the SDI server will be updated with the relevant information. The data table showing the trips will reload for the service date previously selected, allowing users to confirm that the current visibility settings of the trips are accurate. An example of the table resulting from the selections above is shown below:

Upon clicking REFRESH, the UI will reload the data table showing the trips for the service date previously selected, allowing dispatcher to confirm the current visibility settings of the trips, should a high priority action distract them from the trip status modifications.

Upon clicking CHANGE DATE, the UI will return to the Date Selection dropdown.

Note: The above is meant to describe the required features and may be implemented differently to provide the same functionality.

DELIVERABLES:

‐ SDI Software (2.2.0.0) shall include all listed enhancements o Software Installation, Integration and Burn-in Testing Support

C. Assumptions

Users will use this UI on a machine that can access the SDI database.

Trains cancelled/hidden before the train begins its trip will not generate any data from Wi‐Tronix showing that train operating. If a train is hidden before its trip begins then makes movements that causes Wi‐Tronix to show the train operating, then the train will be output in the “trains” API used for the real‐time location map on sunrail.com until a user unhides this train then hides it again. (The reason for this is the “trains” API uses data from the LOCOMOTIVE_POSITION database table, but trains are put in this table only once they start operating. If a train is hidden before a train starts its trip, then the train cannot be hidden because it’s not in this table yet.) This same assumption does not apply to other outputs (predictions shown on sunrail.com, predictions and locations output in GTFS‐realtime, and announcements sent to the PA/VMS system).

D. Services to be Provided All required hardware, network connectivity and licensed software.

E. PROJECT SCHEDULE

The project is anticipated to be completed by December 31, 2021
