SURFACE PREPARATION: All surfaces must be cured, clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, rust, stains, grease, oil, mildew, wax, efflorescence, bond-breakers, and other contaminants. Remove all loose, peeling, or chalky paint by sanding, scraping, or other appropriate methods. Repair all cracks, holes, and other surface imperfections with a suitable patching material. Repaired surfaces should then be sanded smooth and dusted clean. Glossy surfaces should be dulled to provide a roughened surface for good adhesion.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
• CAUTION! Scraping or sanding surfaces of older buildings (especially pre-
1978) may release dust containing lead or asbestos. EXPOSURE TO LEAD OR ASBESTOS CAN BE VERY HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH. Wear a NIOSH-approved N100 particulate filter mask to avoid breathing dust. Use a HEPA vacuum for cleanup, and finish by water-washing all surfaces. For more information, see Dunn-Edwards brochure on “Surface Preparation Safety”or call U.S. EPA’s lead hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD, or visit www.epa. gov/lead or / asbestos, or contact your state or local Health Agency.
• This product can neither cause nor prevent or cure the growth of mold, mildew, or other forms of fungus. Excessive moisture and inadequate ventilation are the main conditions that promote their growth. Correct any such conditions before painting.
• If efflorescence exists, remove all noticeable deposits and prime the entire surface with SUPER-LOC® Premium (SLPR00), EFF-STOP® Select (ESSL00) or FLEX-PRIME® Select (FPSL00).
• For wood application, prime with EZ-PRIME® Premium (EZPR00) and then apply two coats of ENDURALASTIC 10 (EDLX10) at a maximum dry film thickness of 1.5 to 3.0 mils per coat. Add up to 1/4 pint (4 fl. oz.) of clean water per gallon of coating. Do not apply at the recommended dry film thickness for masonry of 11-13 mils, as it can create moisture related issues.
• Certain woods, such as redwood, cedar, and spruce, contain water-soluble extracts (tannins) that may discolor lighter colors. In these situations, it is recommended to prime the wood with EZ-PRIME® Premium (EZPR00) before applying ENDURALASTIC 10 (EDLX10).
• Airless spray application of ENDURALASTIC 10 (EDLX10) must be “pinholefree” and have a dry film thickness of 11–13 mils. Surface features mandate the method of application and number of coats needed to achieve this.
| • | Do not thin or reduce. |
| • | Do not apply when the air or surface temperature is below 50ºF. |
| • | While we recommend applying our exterior latex paints within industry standard |
temperature ranges, they can be applied at temperatures up to 120°F. Refer to www.dunnedwards.com/technical-bulletins/ for more information.

Primer Systems
Achieving a waterproof system requires that the finished coating system fills all the voids in the masonry creating a pinhole free surface and that all transitions between building materials are properly sealed to prevent moisture intrusion. Because building materials and construction design factors vary widely it may be necessary to adjust the spread rate, number of coats or application methods to achieve a waterproof system on your project.
Special Note: Certain custom colors require a Deep Color Base Primer tinted to a special prescription formula to achieve the desired color. Consult your retailer.

Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of oil, grease, wax, rust, mildew, chalk and loose or scaling paint. Cement based waterproofing paints should be removed.
Glossy surfaces must be dulled. Un-weathered areas such as eaves, porch ceilings, overhangs and protected wall areas should be washed with an appropriate cleaner and rinsed with a strong stream of water from a garden hose or power washer to remove contaminants that can interfere with proper adhesion.
All new masonry surfaces must be power washed or brushed thoroughly with stiff fiber bristles to remove loose particles. For optimal system performance new masonry should cure 30 days prior to application of the sealer / coating system and have a pH of 10 or less. If project timelines require an expedited system; masonry that has been allowed to cure for 7 days under normal drying conditions and has a pH of 13 or less may be sealed with Ultra Spec® Masonry Interior / Exterior 100% Acrylic Masonry Sealer (608) or Ultra Spec® Masonry High Build Primer (N609) prior to finishing. Poured or pre-cast concrete with a very smooth surface should be etched or abraded to promote adhesion, after removing all form release agents and curing compounds.
Ultra Spec® Masonry Elastomeric Coating will bridge cracks up to 1/32”. Cracks between 1/32” – 1/16” in width should be filled with caulk and over coated with a brush or knife grade elastomeric patch to provide the required joint movement. Cracks larger than 1/16” should be routed out to 1/4” by 1/4” and repaired as directed with the caulk and patch products prior to finishing.
Difficult Substrates: Benjamin Moore offers a number of specialty primers for use over difficult substrates such as bleeding woods, grease stains, crayon markings, hard glossy surfaces, or other substrates where paint adhesion or stain suppression is a particular problem. Your Benjamin Moore® retailer can recommend the right problem-solving primer for your special needs.
Application
Apply by brush, roll, power roller or spray and back roll, working the material into the surface to fill all cracks and voids. Strike off roller applications in a downward direction to ensure a uniformly stippled finish. Apply one or two coats as required to properly encapsulate the substrate. Monitor spread rate or check wet film thickness repeatedly during application to ensure proper wet and dry film thicknesses are achieved.
Because it is applied in very heavy coats, Ultra Spec® Masonry Elastomeric Waterproof Coating will remain sensitive to rain and moisture condensation longer than conventional coatings. Make sure to leave ample drying time between application of the coating and exposure to moisture.
Brush: Nylon / polyester Roller: Premium Quality
Spray, Airless:
Pressure / 2,500 – 3,000 PSI Tip / 0.021 – 0.031
Thinning/Cleaning
Conditioning with Benjamin Moore® 518 Extender may be necessary under certain conditions to adjust open time or spray characteristics.
Add 518 Extender or water - Max of 8 fl. oz. to a gallon paint Never add other paints or solvents.
Clean Up: Wash brushes, rollers, and other painting tools in warm soapy water immediately after use. Spray equipment should be given a final rinse with mineral spirits to prevent rusting.
USE COMPLETELY OR DISPOSE OF PROPERLY. Dry, empty containers may be recycled in a can recycling program. Local disposal requirements vary; consult your sanitation department or state-designated environmental agency on disposal options.

SURFACE PREPARATION
WARNING! Removal of old paint by sanding, scraping or other means may generate dust or fumes that contain lead. Exposure to lead dust or fumes may cause brain damage or other adverse health effects, especially in children or pregnant women.
Controlling exposure to lead or other hazardous substances requires the use of proper protective equipment, such as a properly fitted respirator (NIOSH approved) and proper containment and cleanup. For more information, call the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in US) or contact your local health authority.
Remove all surface contamination by washing with an appropriate cleaner, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Scrape and sand peeled or checked paint to a sound surface.
Sand glossy surfaces dull. Seal stains from water, smoke, ink, pencil, grease, etc. with the appropriate primer-sealer. Recognize that any surface preparation short of total removal of the old coating may compromise the service length of the system.
Caulking:
Gaps between windows, doors, trim, and other through-wall openings can be filled with the appropriate caulk after priming the surface.
Cement Composition Siding-Panels:
Remove all dirt, dust, grease, oil, loose particles, laitance, foreign material, and peeling or defective coatings. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly. Primer required. If the surface is new, test it for pH, if the pH is higher than 9, prime with Loxon Concrete and Masonry Primer.
Masonry, Concrete, CMU, Stucco:
Remove all dirt, dust, mildew, loose particles, laitance, foreign material, peeling and defective coatings, chalk, form release agents, moisture curing membranes, etc. All new surfaces must be cured according to the supplier’s recommendations—usually about 30 days. If painting cannot wait 30 days, allow the surface to cure 7 days at 75°F and prime the surface with Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer or Loxon Block Surfacer to fill Block, and CMU.
On tilt-up and poured-in-place concrete, commercial detergents and sandblasting may be necessary to remove sealers, release compounds, and to provide an anchor pattern. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly.
Primer required. Concrete and mortar must be cured at least 30 days. If painting cannot wait 30 days, allow the surface to cure 7 days at 75°F and prime the surface with Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer. Fill bugholes, air pockets, cracks, and other voids with an elastomeric patch or sealant. Rough surfaces can be filled to provide a smooth surface.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Mildew:
Prior to attempting to remove mildew, it is always recommended to test any cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area prior to use. Bleach and bleaching type cleaners may damage or discolor existing paint films. Bleach alternative cleaning solutions may be advised.
Mildew may be removed before painting by washing with a solution of 1 part liquid bleach and 3 parts water. Apply the solution and scrub the mildewed area. Allow the solution to remain on the surface for 10 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with water and allow the surface to dry before painting. Wear protective eyewear, waterproof gloves, and protective clothing. Quickly wash off any of the mixture that comes in contact with your skin. Do not add detergents or ammonia to the bleach/water solution.
