Explanation StationMD is a physician telemedicine service that is dedicated to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and other vulnerable populations. Their mission is to provide the highest quality of medical care for individuals with I/DD, fostering independence and improving quality of life for their patients and those providing care. All of their physicians are specially trained to address this population's complex health needs. They can treat patients through a simple telemedicine platform, and in fact 90% of the calls they receive result in care being provided in residence, versus requiring the individual and their staff needing to go elsewhere.
StationMD is a unique model that has been beneficial to providing care to residents at only a few of the Department's developmental centers of the previous two fiscal years. The Department is expanding the contract beginning in FY26 to receive StationMD telehealth medical services for all residents at the eight developmental centers as well as telehealth behavioral health services as needed on an emergency basis for some residents. The Department is using StationMD to reduce staffing costs and on-call coverage for the Developmental Centers' Medical Directors and/or Nurse Practitioners.
StationMD will also reduce the cost and issues related to staff shortages and/or overtime when individuals are able to receive the necessary care at the Developmental Center versus having to leave the DC for care. In return, this all also improves physician and staff satisfaction, recruitment, and retention.
