About this file
This is a Purchase Description (PD) specification document for a dressing robe designed for cadets at the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point.
The robe is a medium-length, wrap-around style garment made from 100 percent cotton French terry cloth in black. It features a shawl collar, three patch pockets (one on the chest, two on the lower front), long sleeves, a hanger loop, and a separate belt with pointed ends. The pockets, collar, and fronts are trimmed with gold edge cord (ELC Industries gold 346 nylon braid), and the West Point embroidered emblem is sewn to the chest pocket. The robe is available in six sizes: X-Small through XX-Large, with two belt sizes (Belt-Small for XS and S; Belt for M through XXL). The specification document (WP-PD-24-001) provides detailed requirements for materials, construction, finished measurements, and quality standards. The basic fabric must meet specific physical requirements including weight (12 ounces per linear yard), bursting strength (minimum 40 pounds), dimensional stability (maximum 5 percent in both directions), and colorfastness standards for laundering, crocking, perspiration, and water exposure. All thread must be polyester core, cotton or polyester-covered (Tex 31-35), and the finished cloth must be free from dermatological or toxic effects. The specification includes requirements for first article inspection, conformance inspection, and component testing. Quality defects are classified as major or minor and scored according to Table V, which addresses material defects, stitching quality, construction issues, shade consistency, component specifications, cleanliness, workmanship, labels, and packaging. Comments and questions should be directed to the Department of the U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center in Natick, Massachusetts, or the Cadet Uniform Factory at West Point.
