The exception to fair opportunity is in accordance with 16.505(b)(2)(ii)(A) This brand Name justification is for a logical follow-on due to the requirement’s compatibility with our current Network, radio and integration.
Motorola Solutions has been the current radio for the BLM Law Enforcement (LE) staff nationwide. This radio purchase will be improving the existing communication for LE staff. These radios will be used to extend radio coverage via other radio networks and other LE networks and overcome geographical obstacles that obstruct the current BLM radio system.
Choosing another manufactured product or brand will cost the government more money for equipment, training, and install cost.
BLM LE has Motorola as their radio for day to day operations and interoperability with other agencies. The LE staff uses P25 Phase II TDMA 700 on the Riverside County system, 800 Imperial County, 800 San Bernardino County system and UHF for Kern County. This radio allows the LE staff to have one radio instead of multiple of radios to assist with doing their jobs efficiently and effectively.
