About this file

This document outlines the salient characteristics for a non-contact radar water level sensor procurement and references the associated federal contract opportunity. The United States Geological Survey Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility requires a non-contact radar sensor that uses 80 GHz measurement frequency technology to measure water levels across data collection sites in the country. The sensor must measure stage with an accuracy of 0.01 feet or 0.1% of the reading, whichever is larger, over a temperature range of -40 to 60 degrees Celsius with a measurement range of 0 to 30 meters. Additional requirements include a beam angle of 4 degrees or smaller, an operating temperature range of -40 to 60 degrees Celsius, 12 VDC power, an SDI-12 interface, an IP66/68 rating, integrated Bluetooth, and an included 15-foot SDI-12 cable. An optional mounting bracket is also specified. The related solicitation was issued by the Department of Interior USGS Office of Acquisitions and Grants as solicitation number 140G0123Q0266 for these non-contact radar water level sensors.

Salient Characteristics

Non-Contact Radar (Model VegaPuls C 23 Radar Water Level Sensor)

The USGS Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility needs to purchase non-contact radar water level sensors with 80 GHz measurement frequency technology. This equipment will be used for measuring water levels at data collections sites all over the country.

Non-Contact Radar

Shall meet USGS requirements for stage accuracy measurements and shall measure stage with a total measurement uncertainty of no more than 0.01 ft. or 0.1% of indicated reading, whichever is larger over a temperature range of at least -40° to 60°C.

Shall be capable of a measurement range up to at least 0 to 30m (0 to 98 feet).

Shall use 80 GHz measurement frequency technology.

Shall have a beam angle that is no larger than 4o.

Shall be capable of an operating temperature range of at least -40° to 60°C.

Shall be powered from a 12 VDC (nominal) power source.

Shall include an SDI-12 interface.

Shall have a mechanical IP rating of at least IP66/68.

Shall have an integrated Bluetooth communication interface.

Shall include an integral SDI-12 communication/power cable that is at least 15 ft. long.

Shall have an option for a mounting bracket.
