BRAND NAME SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Respondents shall offer the brand name products/services or other than brand name products/services that meet or exceed the following Brand Name Salient Characteristics in order to be technically acceptable.

Introduction.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) United States Geological Survey (USGS) is a science organization that provides impartial information on the health of our ecosystems and environment, the natural hazards that threaten us, the natural resources we rely on, the impacts of climate and land-use change, and the core science systems that help us provide timely, relevant, and useable information. USGS has need for seismic interpretation software to perform a suite of seismic interpretation functions.

Background.

The USGS Central Energy Resources Science Center (CERSC) Denver, CO, addresses national and global energy geoscience issues and conducts interdisciplinary research on energy systems. The Science Center (and precedent organizations) has been at the forefront of seismic reflection data processing and analysis within DOI for over 30 years. Seismic reflection data interpretation software is a critical component for CERSC’s ability to interpret multichannel seismic reflection data collected for energy studies.

Sellers shall offer HampsonRussell (Brand Name) License Software or Equal to the following Brand Name Specifications and Salient Characteristics.

1. Software is a fully interactive seismic interpretation package with Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) quantitative analysis functions capable of working with and integrating 2D and 3D (pre-stack and post-stack) seismic data and well log data. The software package will be deemed “fully interactive” if it permits on-screen 2D and 3D viewing, horizon picking, synthetic modelling, well-log and seismic data overlays, and cross plotting of multiple data types. To qualify as AVO quantitative analysis functions, processes must include seismic velocity field analysis, pre-stack gather conditioning, seismic response modelling, rock physics / rock properties cross plotting, as well as intercept and gradient calculations.

2. Documentation is provided for all delivered software, software support and updates are provided for all delivered software.

3. The main software shall have the following routines, and/or capabilities:

a. The main software package is suitable for use on the following computer platforms: 32- and 64-bit Windows 10, and 32- and 64-bit Linux.

b. Software shall accept seismic data input in SEGY, SGY, and VOL formats.

c. Software shall accept well log data input in LAS, IES, GMA, and ASCII file formats.

d. Software shall accept horizon data input in DAT and ASCII file formats

e. Software shall accept velocity data input in acceptable seismic data formats (b.) as well as in table format.

f. Software shall support the picking of horizons in two and three dimensions via automated and manual approaches

g. Software shall support the simultaneous viewing of pre-stack and post-stack in a geospatially linked manner.

h. Software shall support the zoning and editing of well logs using petrophysical calculations such as ‘Shear Wave Estimation’, Fluid Replacement Modelling’, ‘Extended Elastic Impedance’, as well as linear and exponential relationship maths.

i. Software shall support pre-stack seismic processing using processes such as ‘Angle Mute’, Angle Gather’, ‘Angle Stack’, ‘Deconvolution’, ‘Spectral Balancing’, ‘Parabolic Radon Transform’, ‘Long Offset Normal Moveout Correction’, and ‘Sparse Spike Detection’.

j. Software shall enable the calculation of synthetic seismograms from well log data and create synthetic well-ties.

k. Software shall support AVO analysis through the implementation of AVO synthetic modelling, AVO offset scaling, AVO gradient analysis, and AVO pick analysis.

l. Software shall enable the calculation of post-stack AVO attribute volumes such as Intercept, Gradient, Change in Poisson’s Ratio, and Fluid Factor, using analysis’ such as the Three Term Aki-Richards Approximation equation, Three Term Fatti Approximation equation, and Three Term Fluid-Mu-Rho equation.

m. Shall provide software maintenance and support for a period of at least one year from installation as part of the initial purchase.

n. Shall have software specific training courses available though the vendor.

o. Brand name has expandability to provide greater capabilities through various add-on packages that fulfill specific interpretation purposes. These add-on packages need not function on all three specified computer platforms.

4. Brand name has expandability to provide additional functionality through optional add-on modules.

a. Deterministic Inversion includes a 3D model builder for constructing a priori impedance models using well log and seismic horizon data; a 2D error grid generation module for providing spatial inversion constraints and a model-based deterministic inversion module.

b. Stochastic Inversion is an elastic inversion that generates high-frequency stochastic models for high-resolution reservoir characterization and uncertainty analysis. It addresses the band-limited nature of deterministic inversion methods and integrates well data and seismic data at a fine scale within a stratigraphic geomodel framework.

c. Rock Physics toolbox is used to explore the link between rock properties and seismic data for quantitative interpretation and feasibility studies. It can create detailed Petro-Elastic Models (PEMs), calibrate them with well data, and generate 3D and 4D Rock Physics Templates which show the relationship between seismic attributes, lithology, saturation, and pressure. It also provides statistical rock physics capabilities using Monte Carlo simulation to create training sets for lithology classification when well data are sparse, or simulate the seismic signature of different production scenarios.

d. AVO Fluid Inversion (AFI) estimates uncertainty in fluid predictions from AVO. AFI uses Biot-Gassmann fluid substitution, Monte Carlo simulation and Bayesian estimation to build fluid probability maps. These maps help in quantitative analysis of the probability of exploration success.

e. Geostatistical Attribute Prediction predicts property volumes using well logs and attributes from seismic data. The predicted properties can be any available log types: such as porosity, velocity, density, gamma-ray, lithology and water saturation. It can also be used to predict missing logs or parts of logs by leveraging existing logs that are common to the available wells.

f. Batch Processing makes use of computing power outside of normal working hours and increases efficiency by scheduling large jobs to run in the evenings or weekends.

Special Considerations.

1. Data Rights. With the exception of any seismic data provided by Contractor for tutorial purposes, all seismic data processed and interpreted with software provided by Contractor are the property of the USGS.
