Matlab from Mathworks software is required because it is the program currently in use and has been the software used on numerous projects. To change from MatLab to any mailto:tmathieu@mathworks.com other software would result in loss of useable data and immense additional cost to re-evaluate and re-create data for these projects. NCATS has been using Matlab for the past 4 years and requires this specific software to allow for continuity of data within the processes it is currently being used in. It is necessary for controlling pieces of equipment (e.g., confocal microscopes, microscope stages, pump actions, etc…). It is also necessary for analyzing data sets that we produce during some of our experiments.

MatLabs’ flexibility and adaptability make it a necessary component of our research.

Furthermore, our research has found that no other software can fulfill this requirement.

Research was based on meticulously reviewing software through internet-based searches, reviewing information at trade shows, and direct contact with vendors.

Any other facts supporting the justification.
