About this file
This document is a technical specification for a 4-cubic yard, high dump, CNG-powered highway sweeper issued by the State of California, Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Division of Equipment. The specification is for a procurement contract (specification number 56811-036-201) detailing precise requirements for a mechanical pick-up sweeper intended for highway maintenance and debris collection, with specific compliance mandates from the California South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and other state regulatory bodies.
The sweeper specification requires a single-engine, CNG-fueled chassis with a minimum 33,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating, capable of traveling at highway speeds up to 65 mph and operating in ambient temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Key technical requirements include a 4-cubic yard stainless steel hopper, PM-10 compliant water spray system, full-width gutter brooms, automatic lubrication system, LED warning lights, backup camera, and specific performance testing protocols. The sweeper must meet stringent California Vehicle Code weight limits, have a minimum sweeping width of 10 feet, pick up at least 90% of test material, and maintain a minimum sweeping speed of 1.0 mph. Optional training services are also outlined for Caltrans equipment shop personnel.
