About this file

This document is a technical specification from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) for procuring a Class 8 single unit, tandem axle truck with a 56,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and a 12-yard dump body and hoist. The specification details the comprehensive requirements for a new, production model truck that must meet all state and federal safety and emission standards. The document provides precise technical specifications for the cab and chassis, including detailed requirements for the engine, transmission, axles, braking system, electrical systems, paint, and attached dump body equipment. A Freightliner M2-112 cab and chassis with a Warren WXL series dump body was used as the representative model for establishing equivalency evaluation criteria.

The specification includes extensive requirements for warning lights, reflective tape, electrical systems, and body preparation and painting. Bidders must have at least one authorized dealer within Louisiana capable of providing parts and service, and must comply with all listed specifications or explicitly note any exceptions. The document includes a compliance checklist where bidders must mark "Yes" or "No" for each section and provide detailed explanations for any deviations. The specification emphasizes safety features, visibility, and functionality, with specific requirements for items like mid-size light bars, perimeter lights, oval warning lights, and high-visibility reflective conspicuity tape. Paint specifications are precise, requiring specific primer, finish coat, and color standards, with paint to be tested upon arrival and potentially rejected if not meeting requirements.
