About this file
This is a Project Control Log prepared by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for landscaping work at the US-12 Five Points Roundabout in Mason Township, Cass County. The project involves removal of existing landscaping and soil excavation within the vegetated roundabout section, placement of landscape fabric and decorative stone at a 6-inch depth, and planting of seven Syringa Reticulata "Ivory Silk" 2-inch trees spaced 15 feet on-center. The work items include 193 cubic yards of earth excavation, 1,050 square yards of landscape fabric, 188 cubic yards of decorative stone (either Meramec Rock or River Rock), and seven trees, with a lump sum contract for site preparation and minor traffic devices. All work must commence following receipt of Notice to Proceed and be completed within 6 days of starting, with a final completion date of September 29, 2023. Work shall be performed during daylight hours with no activities permitted during the Labor Day holiday period (September 1-5, 2023). The contractor must maintain access to all five roundabout approaches and restrict full lane closures to no more than 5 minutes during low-traffic periods between 9 AM and 2 PM.
The contract is structured as a lump sum agreement with quantities provided for estimating purposes only. Traffic control requirements include maintaining the roundabout apron staging area without blocking the traveled way, providing adequate channelizing devices and Type III barriers, delineating excavation areas within 3 feet of traffic at 25-foot spacing intervals, and placing W20-1 Road Work Ahead signs on all intersecting or adjacent roads. The contractor must prevent dirt tracking on traveled lanes and restore elevation and slope to original specifications. The MDOT Operation Engineer, Dharmesh Valsadia, located at 5372 S 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, serves as the project engineer and must approve the work start date.
