Stainless steel
● For the tableware (plates, cups, bowls, forks, spoons and knives):
○ 200 series stainless steel of the appropriate grades for tableware items, or
○ ISO type 1.4016 (American grade 430), or
○ ISO type 1.4301 (American grade 304).
● For the cookware (cooking pots and pan):
○ 200 series stainless steels of the appropriate grades for cookware items, or
○ ISO type 1.4016 (American grade 430), or
○ ISO type 1.4301 (American grade 304).
● Food grade to be certified in conformity with EU regulations 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
● The steel manufacturers must be ISSF members. Applicable standard as per publication EN 10088-1.
U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) Page 3 of 7
● All the steel grades used for manufacturing the tableware and the cookware items must be officially recommended by the steel manufacturer for such application.
● The Kitchen Set supplier will make available all the documents showing the origin of the steel, the steel manufacturer recommendations, and the appropriate control of the grade and the quality.
● Stainless Steel Acceptability limits: Minimum chromium content 16 %. Possible added elements: Ta, Nb, Zr, Mo, Ti, Al, Cu with the following maximum contents:
○ 1 p 100 for Ta, Nb, Zr
○ 4 p 100 for Mo, Ti, Al, Cu
● The manufacturer of the kitchen set ensures that if the raw material used radioactive content it must be below the values provided in tables 1 and 2 of the IAEA Safety Standards Series Safety Guide No RS -6-1-7 “APPLICATION OF THE CONCEPTS OF EXCLUSION, EXEMPTION AND CLEARANCE”. The supplier certifies that the items manufactured were checked for radiation prior to shipment and were found free from radioactivity. A certificate will have to be issued by the supplier.
● Recycled stainless steel is preferred. If offeror can provide recycled stainless steel, please specify the % recycled content. Please also specify whether there are any modifications to the quality standards listed above due to the recycled stainless steel.
Design / Finish:
● All components must be washed and polished, not contain any residuals or dust, and must be clean.
● Manufacturers and suppliers are invited to provide items with designs that improve the performance of the material, considering different types of design bends/veins on the pots, lids, bowls, plates, spoons, forks, knives and cups.
● The polishing level should ensure minimum requirement for food contact, to reduce the microparticles emission. Offeror to specify the micron of polishing.
Warranty:
● It is expected that the kitchen set will last at a minimum of 2 years while used and have a shelf life of 10 years. Material is reusable and recyclable. The kitchen set can be repaired in small workshops.
b. Packaging/Dimensions:
General:
Individual Kitchen Set items must be packed as one (1) full set, in one (1) carton, in the smallest volume possible and minimizing empty space inside the carton.
The cartons must be unbleached (brown, not white) and unlaminated, preferably recycled. Cartons will then be packed on pallets. Individual plastic packaging of items should be eliminated; craft paper wrapping can be used if necessary.
Additional cartons may be requested to be packed with each pallet, per Call Order; they may or may not be branded/labeled.
U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) Page 4 of 7
The primary and secondary packages must be sized in order to protect the goods, avoiding empty space inside the packages, and avoiding empty spaces between boxes on pallets, allowing palletization on pallets of 0.8m x 1.2m without exceeding the size of the pallet. Avoid any unnecessary sub-packaging, especially the single use plastic foils or bags. When sub-packaging is necessary, prefer 100% degradable materials such as paper or cardboard or starch based plastics.
Type: 1 carton box, outer dimensions L 30 x W 30 x H 20 cm +/- 2%. Height dimension are adjusted to parcel content.
Material: Double-corrugated, 5 ply, export quality cardboard, unbleached (brown, not white), unlaminated, preferably recycled.
Strength:
To withstand 6m high stacking and 10 handlings. The final package should resist without any damage to a weight or a pressure of 120kg applied on a strong rigid board on top of the box.
The sealed box with its content must withstand the equivalent weight of a pile of the same box at the foreseen height.
The equivalent weight is placed for 12h on a wood board on the box. The wood board size exceeds the box size by at least 20mm on each side. The box is placed on a standard pallet, in a corner. When the specific pile height is unknown, the standard height is 4m.
Seal: Tape on every joint of the carton. Preference for paper tape 50mm reinforced water activated paper tape.
Palletization:
The 60 sealed cartons must be loaded on a four-way 122cm x 92cm EU compliant and full oak heat-treated wooden pallet fumigated as per ISPM 15 standards. The palletized cartons require reinforced angle protecting cardboard corners.
Pallets must be shrink-wrapped and secured with cross-banding–4 bands in both directions--to secure the cartons to the pallets without damaging or warping the cartons. Pallets must have bottom reinforcement for the stringers. No opaque stretch wrap is to be used; clear stretch wrap is required. Bio-based (PBAT) or compostable stretch wrap and bio-based straps are preferred. The palletized goods must not exceed the length and width of the pallet.
c. Marking and Branding
Printing – General:
All printing on all surfaces must be indelible or of a non-smudge nature. Durable eco-friendly ink is preferred for all printing. All logo printing must be done in accordance with USAID Branding Instructions https://www.usaid.gov/branding
Branding - Carton:
Print on two opposite sides of the carton the USAID Logo in conformity with USAID Branding Specifications:
Vertical logo, in either black or full color, to be confirmed at the time of order. Please see the following web-link for USAID Branding instructions : https://www.usaid.gov/branding
