About this file

Summary

This is the 2022 Annual Survey form developed by the National CASA/GAL Association for Children, administered to state and local child advocacy organizations across the United States. The survey collects comprehensive data from CASA/GAL (Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem) programs regarding their operations, services, staffing, finances, and outcomes for the calendar year 2022. The survey encompasses multiple sections covering direct services metrics (children served, case outcomes, placement types), child demographics (gender, race/ethnicity, age), volunteer advocate demographics and retention, paid staff information, local program operations and finances, and state organization structure. Organizations were required to submit responses by March 31, 2023, with submission through an online KeySurvey portal. The survey accommodates both single local programs and state organizations reporting on behalf of multiple programs within their jurisdiction.

The survey requests detailed financial information for the most recent fiscal year ending no later than December 31, 2022, including total program expenses and comprehensive revenue sources ranging from state court administration funds and federal funding mechanisms (VOCA, TANF, Title IV-E, CJA, CAPTA) to foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and fundraising events. Programs must report funding allocations, board composition and expertise, staff positions and compensation structures, volunteer hour contributions, case management outcomes including reunification and adoption rates, and out-of-home care placement data. State organizations additionally report on administrative functions such as membership fee structures, statewide conferences, quality assurance processes, and program closures. Responses are submitted to survey@nationalcasagal.org and are accessible to relevant state organizations to facilitate oversight and service delivery coordination.
