About this file

This document is a Technical Specification for a Wildland Firefighting Protective Ensemble (WFPE) issued by the State of California, specifically for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The specification is part of Contract ID 1-25-42-09, Attachment 2, and is dated October 28, 2025, with a revision level of A. The document outlines technical requirements for wildland firefighting protective gear in accordance with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards 1950, 1970, 1975, and 1977.

The WFPE consists of two primary components: a yellow jacket and two types of pants (tactical and work/uniform), both in midnight navy color. The jacket is made from a 7 oz. SIGMA fabric blend of Meta-Aramid, Polyamide, Para-Aramid, and Lenzing FR, while the pants use a 7.5 oz. TENCATE fabric blend with similar fire-resistant materials. The specification provides detailed requirements for sizing (XS-4XL for jackets, 26-52 inch waist for pants), construction standards, pocket configurations, closure mechanisms, and labeling. The tactical pants feature cargo pockets and adjustable leg openings, while the work/uniform pants have a more standard design with a permanent crease. Both garment types are designed to meet rigorous fire protection and durability standards, including the ability to withstand at least 25 commercial launderings.
