Salient Characteristics

The USGS Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility (HIF) needs to procure various equipment and instruments for collecting water quality information at remote water monitoring stations and data collection sites at rivers and streams all over the country.

HACH EQUIPMENT FOR HIF IDIQ CONTRACT

SALIENT CHARACTERISITICS:

Water Quality Sonde with Internal Pump:

1. Shall consist of a water quality sonde capable of measuring conductivity, temperature, and depth with an option to measure dissolved oxygen.

2. Shall include an internal pump system for sampling.

3. Shall include anti-foulant device(s) to minimize the growth of aquatic organisms on the sensors.

4. Shall be capable of measuring conductivity in the range of at least 0-70 mS/cm with an accuracy of +/- 0.003 mS/cm and a resolution of 0.001 mS/cm.

5. Shall be capable of measuring temperature in the range of at least -5 to 45 degrees C with an accuracy of +/- 0.002 degrees C, and a resolution of 0.0001 degrees C.

6. Shall include at least 8 Mbytes of internal data storage capability.

7. Shall be capable of being powered by internal, user replaceable batteries.

8. Shall also be capable of being powered by an external 12VDC (nominal) power source.

9. Shall include SDI-12 and RS-232 communication interfaces.

10. Housing shall be made of non-corrosive materials.

11. Shall include a data/power interface cable.

12. Shall include options for various ranges of depth sensors including at a minimum 20m, 100m, and 350m.

13. Shall include an option for an optical dissolved oxygen sensor.

14. Shall include options for data/power cables of various lengths ranging from 5m to 50m.

15. Shall include options for repairs, service, part replacement, and calibrations.

Submersible Ultraviolet Nitrate Analyzer System:

1. Shall consist of a submersible, optical, ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometer nitrate sensor.

2. Shall incorporate Monteray Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) In-Situ

Ultraviolet Spectroscopy (ISUS) nitrate measurement technology.

3. Shall be a chemical-free nitrate sensor.

4. Shall be available with 5mm or 10mm path length.

5. Shall have a wavelength range of 190 to 370 nm.

6. Shall be capable of measuring nitrate concentrations up to 3000 uM (10mm path length) or 4000 uM (5mm path length).

7. Shall be available with or without an integrated wiper for anti-fouling.

8. Shall have capability to perform on-board turbidity and salinity (T/S) corrections.

9. Shall include options for SDI-12, RS-232, analog, and USB interfaces.

10. Shall be powered by 8-18 VDC.

11. Shall be available in various configurations with or without internal data logging.

12. Shall be available in various configurations with fresh water or sea water calibration.

13. Shall include options for the following:

- USB programming cable

- Data/power interface cable, 10m, SDI-12, analog, RS-232

- Data/power interface cable, 20m, SDI-12, analog, RS-232

- Shipping case

- Various accessories such as flow cells, anti-fouling guards, replacement wiper brushes, and dummy plugs.

- Various repair, service, part replacement, and calibration options.

Turbidity Sensor:

1. Shall be suitable for use in open channels or tanks.

2. Shall be capable of measuring turbidity in the range of 0.001 to 4000 NTU.

3. Shall have an accuracy of up to 1000 NTU: without calibration <5% of the measured value +/- 0.01 NTU: with calibration <1% of the measured value +/-0.01 NTU

4. Turbidity calibration method shall be Formazin or STABLCAL (at 800 NTU).

5. Sensor carrier and sleeve shall be made of PVC, the wiper arm and shaft shall be stainless steel.

6. Shall include a wiper.

7. Shall have an operating temperature range of at least 0 to 40 degrees C.

8. The sensor shall have a diameter of no more than 2.5 inches and 8 inches in length.

9. The sensor shall weigh no more than 3.0 lbs.

10. Shall include a 10 meter cable.

11. Unit shall be serviceable.

Dissolved Phosphate Analyzer and Accessories:

1. Shall consist of field deployable wet-chemical sensor capable of continuous or real-time measurement of dissolved phosphate.

2. Shall be capable of unattended operation for deployments of at least 4 months.

3. Shall be a single-analyte type chemical sensor.

4. Shall include field replaceable reagent cartridges and on-board standards.

5. Shall include operating software.

6. Shall have a minimum of 1 GB data memory.

7. Shall have an optical path length of 5 cm.

8. Shall include RS-232 or SDI-12 communications.

9. Shall be capable of operating from an external 12 VDC (nominal) power source.

10. Shall be capable of operating to a depth of at least 100 m.

11. Shall be capable of operating over a temperature range of at least 0° to 35°C.

12. Shall have a nominal measurement range of 0-10 µM.

13. Shall be calibrated with NIST traceable standards.

14. Shall include 1 set of reagent cartridges, test cable, spare parts kit, and shipping case,

15. Shall include options for the following:

- Various set and quantities or reagent cartridges including at a minimum 3, 6, 12, and

25 ea. sets

- Standard calibration solutions including a Phosphate standard solution 0.5 mg PO4/L

500 mL

- Spare parts kit

- Spare filter disc and copper screen

- Filter kit

- Mounting bracket

- Programming cable

- Data/power interface cable in various lengths

- Accessory parts

- Various repair, service, and calibration options.

Multi-Parameter Water Quality Sonde with Internal Pump:

1. Shall consist of a multi-parameter water quality sonde capable of measuring conductivity, temperature, and pH with options to also measure pressure, optical dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, and turbidity.

2. Shall include an internal pump system for sampling.

3. Shall include anti-foulant device(s) to minimize the growth of aquatic organisms on the sensors.

4. Shall be capable of measuring conductivity in the range of at least 0-70 mS/cm with an accuracy of +/- 0.003 mS/cm or better, and a resolution of 0.001 mS/cm.

5. Shall be capable of measuring temperature in the range of at least -5 to 45 degrees C with an accuracy of +/- 0.002 degrees C or better, and a resolution of 0.0001 degrees C.

6. Shall be capable of measuring pH over a range of 0 to 14 pH units with an accuracy of

+/-0.1 pH units, and a resolution of 0.01 pH units.

7. Shall include at least 16 Mbytes of internal data storage capability.

8. Shall be capable of being powered by internal, user replaceable batteries.

9. Shall also be capable of being powered by an external 12VDC (nominal) power.

10. Shall include SDI-12 and RS-232 communication interfaces.

11. Housing shall be made of non-corrosive materials.

12. Shall include a data/power interface cable.

13. Shall include optional configurations for various ranges of depth sensors including, at a minimum, 20m, 100m, and 350m.

14. Shall include optional configurations for an optical dissolved oxygen sensor and a turbidity/chlorophyll sensor.

15. Shall include options for data/power cables of various lengths ranging from 5m to 50m.

16. Shall include options for various accessory parts such as copper guards, copper intake cover, and bail kit.

17. Shall include various repair, service, part replacement, and calibration options.

Universal Controller:

1. Shall be compatible with Hach Nitratax UV nitrate sensors and Hach Solitax turbidity sensors.

2. Shall include a transflective LCD display with backlighting.

3. Shall support use of an SD card for data transfers.

4. Shall include at least 2 digital and/or analog inputs with sensor card.

5. Shall include 1 analog input (4-20mA card).

6. Shall include at least 2 4-20 mA outputs.

7. Shall support MODBUS RS232/RS485, Profibus DP V1.0, and HART 7.2 communication protocols.

8. Shall include internal flash memory.

9. Shall be available in a 24 VDC version or an AC version for power.

10. Shall be house in a NEMA 4x enclosure.

11. Shall be capable of being mounted to a pole, wall, or panel.

UV Nitrate Sensor:

1. Measurement principle shall be based ultra-violet absorption technology.

2. Shall not require reagents.

3. Shall be suitable for continuous measurement in drinking water, wastewater, or activated sludge environments.

4. Shall be available with a 2mm or 5mm path length.

5. Shall have measuring range of 0.1 to 50.0 mg/L (2mm version) and 0.1 to 25.0 mg/L

(5mm version).

6. Shall have an accuracy of at least +/-3% of reading or +/-0.5 mg/L, whichever is greater.

7. Shall have a minimum resolution of 0.1 mg/L.

8. Housing shall be made of stainless steel.

9. Shall include a built-in self-cleaning wiper.

10. Shall include a cable with a minimum length of 10m.

Multi-Parameter (9 sensors) Water Quality Sonde, Sensors, Cables, and Accessories:

1. Shall consist of a multi-parameter water quality sonde that supports up to at least 9 sensor options.

2. Shall be capable of measuring temperature, conductivity, pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen, depth, turbidity, blue-green algae, chlorophyl A, ammonium, nitrate, and chloride.

3. Shall include a central cleaning wiper (brush) system.

4. Shall have at least 5 sensor ports for optical type sensors.

5. Shall measure temperature over a range of -5 to 50˚ C with an accuracy of +/-0.01˚ C and a resolution of 0.01˚ C, or better

6. Shall measure conductivity over a range of 0 to 100 mS/cm with an accuracy of 0.5% of reading + 0.001 mS/cm and a resolution: 0.001, or better.

7. Shall measure pH over a range of 0 to 14 pH units with an accuracy of +/-0.2 pH units

(within environmental pH range of pH 4 to pH 10), and a resolution of 0.01 pH units, or better.

8. Shall operate from 12 VDC (nominal) power source.

9. Shall be capable of SDI-12, R2-485, RS-232, and USB communications.

10. Shall operate over a range of temperatures from -5 to 50˚ C.

11. Shall include at least 4 GB of internal memory.

12. Shall be capable of sampling at the rate of 1 Hz or better.

13. Shall be no larger than 3.5 inches in diameter.

14. Shall be capable of being powered from internal alkaline batteries.

15. Shall be capable of operating on internal battery power for at least 90 days.

16. Shall include options for the following:

- 25 m or 100 m depth sensors integrated to the sonde

- Conductivity sensor integrated to the sonde

- pH and pH/ORP sensors integrated to the sonde with standard or integrated references

- Turbidity sensor integrated to the sonde

- Chlorophyll A sensor integrated to the sonde

- Dissolved oxygen sensor integrated to the sonde

- Blue green algae sensor (fresh or marine) integrated to the sonde

- 5 m, 10 m, 15 m, 25 m, 30 m, deployment cables

- Calibration cable

- USB communications module integrated to the sonde

- SDI-12 communications module integrated to the sonde

- Maintenance kits for turbidity sensors and central cleaning brush

Multi-Parameter (6 sensors) Water Quality Sonde, Sensors, Cables, and Accessories:

1. Shall consist of a multi-parameter water quality sonde that supports up to at least 6 sensor options.

2. Shall be capable of measuring temperature, conductivity, pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen, depth, and turbidity.

3. Shall have at least 2 sensor ports for optical type sensors.

4. Shall measure temperature over a range of -5 to 50˚ C with an accuracy of +/-0.01˚ C and a resolution of 0.01˚ C, or better.

5. Shall measure conductivity over a range of 0 to 100 mS/cm with an accuracy of 0.5% of reading + 0.001 mS/cm and a resolution: 0.001, or better.

6. Shall measure pH over a range of 0 to 14 pH units with an accuracy of +/-0.2 pH units

(within environmental pH range of pH 4 to pH 10), and a resolution of 0.01 pH units, or better.

7. Shall operate from 12 VDC (nominal) power source.

8. Shall be capable of SDI-12, R2-485, RS-232, and USB communications.

9. Shall operate over a range of temperatures from -5 to 50˚ C.

13. Shall weigh no more than 5 lbs. with battery pack installed.

14. Shall be capable of being powered from an internal alkaline battery pack.

15. Shall be capable of operating on internal battery power for at least 75 days.

16. Shall include options for the following:

- With or without internal battery pack power

- With integral 25 m and 100 m depth sensors

- pH sensor integrated to the sonde with standard reference

- pH and ORP sensors integrated to the sonde with standard reference

- pH sensor integrated to the sonde with integrated reference

- pH and ORP sensors integrated to the sonde with integrated reference

- Turbidity sensor integrated to the HL4 sonde

- Chlorophyll A sensor integrated to the sonde

- Blue green algae sensor (fresh or marine) integrated to the sonde

- Conductivity sensor integrated to the sonde

- Dissolved oxygen sensor integrated to the sonde

- 5 m, 10 m, 15 m, 25 m, 30 m, deployment cables

- Calibration cable

- USB communications module integrated to the sonde

- SDI-12 communications module integrated to the sonde

- Maintenance kit for turbidity sensor

Hand-held Display Unit:

1. Shall be compatible with the Hydrolab HL4 and HL7 series sondes.

2. Shall consist of a compact, portable, hand-held, data collector, and display unit for viewing, storage, calibration, and configuration of sondes.

3. Shall include a color, graphical, LCD display with transflective screen.

4. Shall include a keypad.

5. Shall include a rechargeable battery pack with at least 10 hours of continuous use (at 20 degrees C).

6. Shall have an IP rating of at least IP67 and capable of withstanding a drop from a height of 3 feet onto a concrete surface.

7. Shall include a USB port and mini-USB connector.

8. Shall include at least 4 GB of internal memory.

9. Shall weigh no more than 1.5 lbs.

Turbidity Standard Calibration Solutions:

1. Shall consist of pre-mixed calibration solutions for calibrating turbidity sensors.

2. Shall be based on the stabilized Formazin primary standard solution.

3. Shall be USEPA approved for calibration purposes.

4. Shall require no preparation or dilutions.

5. Shall be safe to handle and require no special glassware or lab techniques.

6. Shall have a shelf-life of at least 2 years from date of manufacture.

7. Shall be available in 500 ml and 1000 ml volumes sizes with various concentrations ranging from 10 NTU up to 4000 NTU. At a minimum, shall include size concentrations for 10, 20, 40, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1000, 2000, and 4000 NTU.
