Statement of Work/Specifications Horn Antennas
BACKGROUND:
Propagation measurements and modelling is a core function of the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS). To perform these type of measurements, we typically transmit and receive a known RF signal along the propagation path (RF in the environment) via calibrated antennas. After performance of these measurements, we use the results to either create a new model or make corrections to a current model. To improve the overall quality of this process, ITS needs carefully manufactured and calibrated antennas to better inform their measurement systems.
ITS seeks to establish a long-term tropospheric forward scatter (troposcatter) measurement link between a remote transmitter and receiver system. For this purpose, ITS requires antennas with boresight or broad beam widths that can operate at higher continuous power levels with proper mounting and weather protection to maintain stable and characterized operation while the system is in operation.
OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this procurement is to acquire a solid machined antenna that can be modeled and deployed as of the Troposcatter test system to perform propagation measurements and validation of models.
We require:
4x Antennas
4x Mounting Options
4x Radomes
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Representative Example that meets our Technical Specifications is below:
Narda-MITEQ WG Horn, Model 284-442-6
Mounting Brackets, Model 284-442-6/BR
Radom, Model 284-442-6/RD
Requirements:
1. Single solid machined standard gain horn antenna
2. Frequency range must include: 2.6 – 3.95 GHz
3. VSWR (typical): 2:1
4. Polarization: vertical linear
5. Input power: Able to tolerate above 150W (continuous)
6. Horizontal Beamwidth: Between 16 and 22 degrees
7. Vertical Beamwidth: Between 16 and 25 degrees
8. Gain (typical) : 20 dBi
9. Connector: N-type female
10. Weight: 10 lbs (maximum)
11. Radom for weather tolerance
12. Custom Mounting Included for wind stabilization.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
A fixed setup is preferred as opposed to tactical. The mounting hardware should resist high wind speeds (bursts above >100 MPH) and the radome would protect the waveguide from getting wet and other deposits within the cavity. The antenna should be the same size as any standard gain horn with the stated requirements and should fall under the weight and dimensions described in the requirements document.
DELIVERABLE SCHEDULE:
Delivery requested by July, 31 2023 to preclude any significant delay of ongoing measurement activities and associated FY23 project planning.
DELIVERY LOCATION:
Department of Commerce National Telecommunications & Information Administration 1401 Constitution Avenue, Room 4886 Washington, DC 20230
