About this file

This document outlines the minimum specifications for an Ankom Daisy II Incubator to be used by the USDA Agricultural Research Service at its Oklahoma and Central Plains Agricultural Research Center Grazinglands Research Laboratory. The incubator must be able to batch process at least one hundred samples per run using filter bag technology, accommodate sample sizes from 0.25g to 1.0g, maintain anaerobic conditions within sealed digestion vessels, incorporate four glass digestion vessels that rotate continuously, provide agitation of samples within the vessels, and maintain a constant temperature of 39C with the ability to manually adjust the temperature setting. Overall dimensions should be 144cm wide, 47cm deep, and 64cm high to fit on a laboratory benchtop. The unit must operate on 100-120V at approximately 3A and 60Hz. Any deviations from the specifications provided may be considered unacceptable.

The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 12805B23Q0742 for fiber analyzers and in vitro digestibility incubators from the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Plains Area. The incubator specifications provided appear to outline the requirements for an item being procured under this contract.

Minimum Specifications Ankom Daisy II Incubator

Equal or comparable to Ankom Daisy II Incubator Provided applications for determination of true digestibility, apparent digestibility, digestion kinetics (rate studies) and enzymatic digestions using filter bag technology.

Unit should be easy to operate and capable of batch processing at a minimum of one hundred

(100) samples per batch (filter bag technology).

Should be able to accommodate samples sizes of 0.25 g to 1.0 g.

Containers should maintain anaerobic environment of rumen fluid/buffer mixture in a digestion vessel once sealed and provide venting using one-way valves.

Unit should be able to incubate four (4) digestion vessels (preferably glass) at the same time per incubator unit.

Unit should be able to provide agitation of samples in filter bags using agitator baffle within each digestion vessel.

Incubator unit should provide automated, continuous rotation of sealed/vented digestion vessels.

Unit should maintain constant and uniform heating of digestion vessels. Temperature setting should be able to be manually selected/adjusted/modified, but should be able to maintain selected incubation temperature of 39 C.

Unit should fit on laboratory benchtop. Overall Dimensions – 144 cm wide x 47 cm deep x 64 cm high

100 to 120 volt ~3A 60 Hz operational unit.

Research requires continuity in the treatment of samples through the years. Therefore, any deviations from the above specifications may be considered unacceptable.

The overall dimensions of the Daisy Incubator (144 cm wide x 47 cm deep x 64 cm high) fit in the laboratory bench tops. The benchtop has enclosed areas for each individual units that allows for sufficient airflow on each side as well as minor maintenance.
