About this file
This document outlines the requirements for a Revolution-80 System with Water Cooled Chiller to be purchased and installed at the Air Force Institute of Technology. The laser system will enhance ultrafast laser research capability at AFIT/ENP, where the laser and optics program currently lacks cutting-edge high power pulsed laser capability. Minimum requirements for the system include a 4mm beam diameter with less than 1 mrad beam divergence, 80MHz repetition rate, sub-100fs pulse duration, average power of at least 10W, and central wavelength of 800nm. The chiller must be able to remove a minimum of 10kW of heat load from the laser head. Installation, service, warranty and commissioning of the system are also within the scope. The related federal contract opportunity is listed under Solicitation Number FA860124Q0022 from the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Statement of Work for
Revolution-80 System with Water Cooled Chiller
Title: Revolution-80 System with Water Cooled Chiller
Document Date: 11/13/2023
This document covers the purchase, installation, service, warranty, and commissioning of the purchase of a Revolution-80 System with Water Cooled Chiller to be implemented at the Air
Force Institute of Technology (AFIT).
1. Scope:
The purchase of a Revolution-80 System with Water Cooled Chiller.
1.1 Background:
At AFIT/ENP, the laser and optics program is equipped with some world class equipment but currently lacks a cutting edge high power pulsed laser system, creating a significant void in pursuing in-house ultrafast research capability and creating the necessary workforce in critical technological arena. In nearly every research program pursued by the ENP faculty, ultrafast lasers can be used to enhance these programs by providing a key sensing capability or supplemental current work not achievable with long-duration laser systems. Currently, such research activities are performed in collaboration with AFRL or outside institutes. However, these systems are not freely available for the purpose of education necessary for workforce development in the critical regime.
This laser will be a new piece to an existing laser system that has been custom assembled for this research. An additional laser is required to boost the beam power allowing for research requiring a higher energy beam output.
2. Applicable Documents N/A
3. Requirements/Salient Characteristics:
This purchase is for a highly specialized, highly reliable, high-precision and state-of-the-art laser-based diagnostics system.
Minimum Requirements –
1) The laser beam diameter should be 4 mm (1/e^2) with a beam divergence <8mrad (full-angle).
2) Pump diodes should be Aluminum-free Active Area (AAA) type CW laser diodes for best reliability and lifetime. Using AAA material in the laser diodes minimize failures due to catastrophic facet damage and dark-line defects.
3) Since the laser diodes used for pumping the gain module are critical elements, they should be manufactured by the same supplier as the laser system to ensure compatibility, manufacturing traceability and quality control.
4) Diodes must be field replaceable.
5) Laser system should be HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screen) verified to ensure manufacturing quality, reliability, and reduction of out-of-box failures.
6) Lasers should have a sealed, monolithic construction for best thermal and mechanical stability.
7) Upon request, vendor must produce 10 references for past performance.
8) Upon request, diode bar sample data needs to show tens of thousands of hours Mean Time
Between Failure (MTBF).
9) Water cooled chiller 208 VAC/60 HZ for cooling of the laser.
4. Delivery, Installation, and Warranty:
1) The contractor will ship hardware and software to the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at 2950 Hobson Way, WPAFB, OH 45433-7765
2) The contractor will deliver 20 weeks ARO
3) Installation shall occur within 30 days after delivery
4) LIMITED WARRANTY—LIMITATION OF REMEDIES
(a) Seller warrants to Buyer that the Products delivered under the Terms will (1) comply with either the applicable Seller published specifications for the Products, or the specifications mutually agreed and confirmed in writing between Seller and Buyer for the earlier to occur of
24 months from the date of shipment or mutually agreed and confirmed on Seller’s quotation and (2) will be free from defects in material and workmanship under proper use, service and condition during the defined warranty period.
If the Products include any service parts provided by Seller pursuant to a service event, the warranty period for such service parts shall be ninety (90) days from the date of shipment or the remainder of the initial warranty period, whichever is shorter, unless otherwise expressly specified by Seller on the face of Seller’s quote. Unless otherwise expressly specified by Seller on the face of the quote, the warranty for any depot repairs of Products is ninety (90) days from the date of return shipment by Seller or the remainder of the initial warranty period, whichever is shorter. Seller warrants to Buyer that it will provide any Services consistent with general industry standards.
