Foreword The Bureau of Reclamation, Upper Colorado Basin, Albuquerque Area Office (Reclamation) has determined a need for appliances and fixtures. The purpose of this procurement is to improve water and energy efficiency at the Elephant Butte Historic District in government owned recreational rentals, houses and the restaurant.
Background Congress authorized the construction of Elephant Butte Dam on February 25, 1905, with construction beginning in 1916.
The Elephant Butte Historic District (EBHD) area consists of approximately 130 acres and 65 different structures, 32 of which are recorded on the National Register of Historic Places. Reclamation owns all buildings and assets within the Historic District. Several original structures were built during the construction of the dam between 1911-1916 while others were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s and 1940s.
This area used to be leased to New Mexico State Parks as part of Elephant Butte Lake State Park but was returned to Reclamation management in 2015. The area is currently open to the public, apart from the restaurant, and is temporarily managed by a license agreement while a concession contract is being put into place.
