Statement of Work

The vendor will remove and dispose of 20,854 linear feet of existing woven wire fence. The Contractor shall prevent additional damage to existing fence posts to remain during selective demolition activities.

The vendor will replace all 20,854 linear feet of perimeter fence with good quality ten-foot-tall fixed knot 23/120/6 12.5 gauge high tensile fence with Class 3 Hot Dipped Galvanized (HDG). Fence shall be secured to posts with a minimum of Class 3 HDG 8-gauge x 1.5” barbed divergent tip staples. Staples shall be installed at the top and bottom horizontal strands and at a maximum 12” spacing for intermediate horizontal strands. Staples shall be driven so as to allow horizontal fence wires to slide freely but not leaving an undriven staple length exceeding 3/8”. Fence will be attached to the outside of existing posts except where approved by the COR and as excepted in the following paragraph. Fence shall be mechanically tensioned during installation to provide a taught but not over-stressed installation. The bottom horizontal strand of the fence shall closely follow the existing ground line and shall not exceed a 6” gap over dips in natural grade. The Contractor shall be responsible for restoring improvement/landscaping/roads damaged by the Contractors activities i.e. ruts, landscaping damage, damage to items not included in select demolition.

All fallen trees extending across the fenceline to the interior area will be removed by forest service personnel, but some incidental brush cutting will be required by vendor to attain a good quality installation.

Existing fence posts will generally be reused except approximately 10 will be replaced as a base bid item. An optional bid item shall be replacement of additional posts beyond the base bid estimate and shall be on a per post cost, as approved by the CO. The Contractor shall notify the COR of damaged posts encountered during the fence installation that the Contractor recommends for replacement – the Contractor shall not proceed with replacement of posts beyond the quantity in the base bid price without approval by the CO.

Replacement posts shall be treated in accordance with the American Wood Protection Association Standard U1-19 for UC4B Ground Contact-Heavy Duty. Posts shall be peeled prior to pressure treating and shall have a minimum dressed diameter of 7”. Posts shall be 16’ +/- total length with a minimum ground embedment depth of 5’. Posts shall be of Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, red pine, or Southern pine. New posts shall be backfilled with compacted native soil.

The COR and Contractor will conduct a site inspection prior to the notice to proceed being issued. Posts included in the base bid for replacement will be marked during this inspection as will fence areas that will be excepted from the exterior post fastening requirement.

Additional bracing will be installed by vendor where change in direction merits extra support as in corners. Bracing should include treated sixteen-foot posts of an eight-inch minimum top diameter and galvanized two-inch pipe braces in the air connecting posts.

The four existing swinging gates and three stiles will be left in place.

Contractor will supply all fencing materials, supplies, equipment, and incidentals required to provide the seed orchard with a complete deer exclusion fence product.

All work shall be subject to a 1 year labor and material warranty per standard FAR construction clause.
