Ames Garage Exterior Wall and Door Replacement Specification

This is a standard material specifications document prepared for the Ames Medical Classification Center garage exterior wall and door replacement project under the Iowa Department of Corrections. The specification establishes comprehensive technical requirements across multiple construction disciplines including cold-formed metal framing, rough carpentry, thermal insulation, metal wall panels, joint sealants, hollow metal doors and frames, door hardware, and glazing. The project involves replacement of the garage's exterior walls and passage doors, requiring formed steel stud exterior wall framing, wood sheathing, mineral fiber blanket insulation, precoated steel metal wall panels in a vertical profile with double-interlocked side seams, thermally insulated hollow metal doors with polyurethane cores achieving an R-value of 8.7 minimum, and safety-glazed door lites. The specification references applicable industry standards including AISI S100, ASTM material standards, ICC International Building Code, BHMA hardware standards, and GANA glazing guidelines, with all work to be performed by manufacturers and installers with minimum three years of documented experience in their respective trades.

The specification requires all materials to comply with current ASTM standards for steel coatings, galvanizing, and corrosion protection, with field quality control inspections mandated for material verification. Exterior doors must include thermally broken door frames with weatherstripping and rain guards, door closers, exit devices, protective plates, and thresholds meeting accessibility standards. Hardware finishes are specified as satin chromium plated over nickel in accordance with BHMA A156.18. The document establishes strict installation tolerances, including vertical stud alignment of 1/960 of span or 1/8 inch in 10 feet, and maximum diagonal distortion of 1/16 inch for door and frame assemblies. Contractor submittals must include product data, shop drawings, manufacturer installation instructions, and warranty documentation, with ten-year manufacturer warranties required for insulating glass units and two-year warranties for sealants. No pricing information, contract value, procurement timeline, or bidding details are contained within this specifications document.
