Questions and Answers

1. Where does the road reconditioning begin?

A. NFSR 20S05 starts at the junction with the state highway 1. The first 0.3 miles of the road are paved, and per the specification 303(01) the contractor shall work ONLY specification

303.03 (Ditch Reconditioning) and 303.04 (Shoulder Reconditioning). For the remaining 13.2 miles, follow specification 303.01 entirely as per the schedule of items.

2. I went up today and looked at the road and drove all the way to the vortex station‐it is probably in far worse shape now than when the Forest Service put together the road log. Some of the flumes and spillways are either totally gone or in the canyon‐some of them are not even taking water and there will need to be plenty of grading to get the job done.

A. We know the conditions are changing per recent rain events and will still changing until the day we start working on the ground. Contractor shall bid accordingly of current conditions of the road.

3. If you don’t reassess it I guess we just bid on what is in the log, correct?

A. The Contractor shall bid on the Schedule of Items (not the road log)

4. I found out that the material required to do the fix, flumes, starters, inlets will take two weeks to acquire. Nobody I have called stocks this material and if they do there is not enough for the entire job. Given the job will be starting less than two weeks after bid acceptance I would think we or whomever wins the bid will need to push the start date back. The bid is only allowing 22 days and you will need all of them to install and recondition each area.

A. After a contract is awarded, the Contractor will provide evidence of material ordering and expected delivery dates. The Notice to Proceed effective date will be the date materials are received by the contractor.

5. Before the job starts you will need to mark out the exact spots (again) that were put in the road log‐since there is in my opinion far more than 46 spots which need attention.

A. Yes, the areas on the road log will be marked.
