Statement of Work/Specifications Sheet Linear Irrigation System Installation
1. Background:
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is an Agency within the Natural Resources and Environmental Area (NRE) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Lockeford Plant Materials Center (PMC) in Lockeford, CA has 106 acres of land used for studies into plant materials for conservation. The PMC needs to purchase a Linear Irrigation System for irrigation of an approximate 10 acre, 370’ by 1120’ rectangular field at the Lockeford PMC.
Location and Site **GPS Coordinates: 38o10’09.70”N 121o09’54.69”W 66 feet elevation
Dimensions:
The Linear Irrigation System will be 370’ (along the system length) X 1120’ (travel distance)
Site Characteristics:
• Fine Sandy loam soil
• Relatively level
• Plots within the area will be variable in width (travel distance) and require different irrigation strategies. For example:
o 2 acre plot with winter forage and corn typical for dairies.
o Research plots for fall and spring planted cover crops o Likely grasses and forbs grown for seed.
o Crops – grains, cover crops and occasional silage corn, summer cover crops including sudan grass and SunnHemp.
Power Supply:
• No electricity to field, will require on-board genset, hydraulic or water drive.
Water Supply:
• There is an existing pressurized irrigation system that runs along the travel distance of the field o 4” ring lock valves spaced at 80’. 3” valve opener (to current hand lines) on hand.
o 600 gpm at 60psi, pressure-set VFD on hand o Horizontal screen filter at water source, 0.030 openings on hand
Access:
From Elliott Road, site is accessible for large equipment.
2. Date of Award:
The date of award through 60 days (estimated period of performance).
3. NRCS Responsibilities:
NRCS will provide access to the field for a site visit. NRCS Engineers who will oversee design and construction.
4. NRCS Point of Contact:
Dr. Margaret Smither-Kopperl, PMC Manager, Primary (Phone: 209 727 5319 ext. 102) Mr. Shawn Vue, PMC Admin Assistant Alternate (Phone: 209 727 5319 ext. 109) M. Dan Johnson, State Water Management Engineer, (Phone: 530 792 5625)
5. Specifications for Design
• Spans - Galvanized steel. Crop clearance >9’
• Suitable overhang (end boom) to make up difference between span length and field width
• Main tower o Conveniently located, liquid filled pressure gauge, 0-30 psi range o Flow meter, totalizing and gpm.
o Set up for on-board chemigation
• Drive o Considering nozzle selection and spacing, in-canopy and above-canopy operation, speeds can be set to apply at little as ½ inch each irrigation and as much as 1 ½ inch each irrigation with no runoff.
• Sprinklers/Drops (Note: row crops will be planted perpendicular to direction of travel) o Drops
Spans with 30 inch outlet spacing. Every other outlet plugged for potential future conversion to 30 inch sprinkler spacing.
Drop assemblies spaced 60 inches.
Sprinkler height 5 feet about ground o Heads, mid span – Nelson S3030, yellow impact plate.
o Heads, linear ends – Nelson Part Circle Rotator o Nozzle, 3NV sized to apply at little as ½ inch each irrigation and as much as 1 ½ inch each irrigation with no runoff.
o Pressure regulators (10 psi) will be needed at each head unless a regulator can be installed on the first tower.
• Controls o Alignment –GPS.
o Programmable to:
Set stop location or distance Operate in reverse Set speed necessary to apply as little as ½ inch to as much as 1 ½ inches each irrigation
6. Tasks:
