General Notes

1. Before constructing Rock Drainage Dips, minor reconstruction of roadway must be completed to allow the Contractor’s equipment to proceed up the roadway. Work shall include: placement of sufficient fill material over the large culverts to prevent crushing the culverts during the project, minimal removal of downed trees and brush, and removal of slide material sufficient to allow safe passage of the Contractor’s vehicles. This work is incidental to the rest of the project.

2. Culvert type, (plastic, steel or aluminum) is shown on the plans to help contractor determine disposal costs.

3. All culverts will be removed from National Forest System lands.

4. Rocked Drainage Dips – Payment will include, all excavation, hauling of waste material, stockpiling of waste material, smoothing, seeding and mulching of waste material, development of Class 4 and Class 6 Riprap, and Placement of Class 4 and Class 6 Riprap.

5. All material removed during the construction of the Rocked Drainage Dips shall be hauled to the waste area at milepost 2.0 or milepost 2.7 on road #1160 unless an alternate site is approved by the Contraction Officer.

6. Class 4 and Class 6 Riprap will be available from slide material in and adjacent to the roadway and from below the roadway at approximately Milepost 2.6. A short access route shall be constructed. The route shall be removed following use by placing any fill back in the cuts and seeding and mulching. Additional Class 4 or Class 6 Riprap is available at the Two-Mile Pit on Road 1200120.

7. Class 8 Riprap shall be produced from the roadway on road #1160, from the pit site at milepost 2.7 on road #1160, from the riprap site described in #6 above or at the Two Mile Pit on road #1200120.

8. Ditches will be tapered into the Rocked Drainage Dips to ensure smooth drainage transition.

9. Following stockpiling of material in the pit area at milepost 2.0 and milepost

2.7, material shall be smoothed, shaped to drain, out sloped, seeded and mulched. All other areas shall have seeding and mulching kept current with construction.

10. Item 202(02)B, Removal of Large Culverts, includes excavation and haul of all removed materials to waste site.

11. Fill removed from the large culverts at Mileposts 0.15 and 0.27 will be hauled to Road #1152 at Milepost 0.75 and stockpiled.

12. When completed, the stream sites at Mileposts 0.15 and 0.27 shall be left in a natural condition with all road fill material removed and slopes shaped to match adjacent contouring. Woody debris shall be scattered along the stream bank.

13. All areas approved for use as disposal areas shall be out sloped, shaped to drain, seeded and mulched.

14. Equipment rental hours are for side cast pull back, haul and placement.

15. Item 640(01) – Install Road Closure Device. Contractor shall furnish and install a temporary road closure device (gate) with locking device at approximately milepost 0.1 on road #1160. Device shall be of sufficient width and construction to allow easy access by both the Contractor’s equipment and by Forest Service personnel. Prior to placement, Contractor shall have the device approved by the Contracting Officer. Appropriate signs and Forest Service lock will be furnished by the Forest Service and will be installed by the Contractor. Following all work, the device shall be removed from the project and the signs and lock returned to the Forest Service.

16. Optional Item 304(10)A, 1,000 C.Y. shall be produced and stockpiled at the
