RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS

Question 1) Are there pictures of the exhibits at Alaska Discovery Center available for review?

THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW BUT ARE DESCRIBED IN THE RFQ.

Question 2) Are there dimensioned floor plans available of both sites?

THERE ARE BUT THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RFQ. THE SIZE OF THE ROOMS

WHERE THE AV IS LOCATED IS LISTED IN THE RFQ IN TERMS OF DISTANCE TO SCREEN

AND CAPACITY SEATING.

Question 3) Is it correct that both screens are to be replaced? Do you wish both of these screens to have a 16:9 aspect ratio?

THE CONDITION OF THE SCREENS IS LISTED. WE ASK THEY BE REPLACED BASED ON

THIS RATIO BUT THE OVERALL SIZES FOR EACH FACILITY WILL BE DIFFERENT.

Question 4) There is an implied requirement that additional lighting may be needed in both theaters for special events. Should this cost and control of that lighting be provided as line item in our budget?

LIGHTING SHOULD BE RELATED TO THE USE OF THE THEATER FOR FILMS, SPEAKERS

AND OTHER AV PRODUCTIONS.

Question 5) Does the client wish to control lighting via a wireless touch interface pad?

YES

Question 6) Is this lighting mostly to highlight the speaking area?

YES

Question 7) All electrical service work is to be carried out on site. Are there any plans or prints that show the infrastructure of current low voltage cabling and or current electrical outlets or circuits given to the audio visual and lighting?

YES. THESE PLANS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE CONTRACTOR WHO IS

AWARDED THIS CONTRACT.

Question 8) Are the circuits for the audio visual equipment currently grounded on their own Buss Bar? Has there been any isolation of circuits that feed the audio visual system?

NO. THIS NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED IN YOUR QUOTATION.

Question 9) Do you know the model number or name of the current lighting dimmers in place at each site?

LISTED IN RFQ – IF NOT, WE CAN GET THAT INFORMATION FOR YOU.

Question 10) For ADA compliance we are assuming that we should provide a unit that is capable of providing the audio signal to a t coil neck loop and to amplified headphones. We are assuming that this system should sync to the existing sound track via IR remote. Each theater would be provided enough units to cover 4% of the visitors at any one sitting. In addition we understand we need to provide hardware for a closed caption channel.

Are there any other ADA concerns that we should address?

ANY THAT APPEAR IN THE FS MANUAL 1470 AS LISTED IN THE RFQ.

Question 11) Does the Alaska Visitor Center wish to have the exhibits under a single system control that turns on all playback devices with one button push?

NO. THESE ARE INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS THAT ARE TURNED ON BY VISITOR AND NOT

SUPPOSED TO PLAY ALL AT ONCE.

Question 12) How many wireless and wired microphones are required for each Venue?

THESE ARE TAKEN CARE OF AND DO NOT NEED REPLACEMENT, SEE EXISTING LISTS.

Question 13) Is there a broadband internet line available at both sites for remote equipment communication?

We understand we may have to coordinate this but we are asking if broadband is available as an option at both sites?

SEADC – YES, MGVC – NO.

Question 14) It says on FBO.gov that the proposals are due December 16th but in the RFQ it says that there is a pre-proposal visit scheduled for February 2010. It also says there will be several stages of the design proposal process. Are we just submitting an estimated budget to you by December 16th that may change after we fly up to Juneau and Ketchikan with our design team? Or is the price we are submitting final and the pre-proposal field visit will be scrubbed?

THE FIELD VISIT HAS BEEN SCRUBBED AND THE ENTIRE PACKAGE (PRICING PLUS

RESPONSES TO THE TECHNICAL EVALUATION FACTORS) IS DUE BY DECEMBER 16TH.

Question 15) Is this contract all-encompassing (electrical, furniture, A/V equipment, maintenance/servicing) or will this be split up among many different awards?

FURNITURE IS NOT INCLUDED UNLESS IT IS PART OF THE HARDWARE SUBSTRUCTURE.

OTHERWISE ALL THE OTHERS ARE CALLED FOR IN THIS RFQ WITH A SINGLE AWARD

ANTICIPATED.

Question 16) Can you identify for us the model number of the Barco projector at the Alaska Visitor Center?

BARCO PROJECTOR SERIAL NUMBER 1059775 MODEL TYPE BARCODATA 5100LC END.

Question 17) Where can information about the UAF studies on the Mendenhall Glacier be found?

INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE FOLLOWING WEBSITES:

www.extremeicesurvey.org and www.seamonster.jun.alaska.edu

Question 18) Do you want a 5.1 surround sound mix?

PLEASE SEE THE RFQ FOR MINIMAL NEEDS FOR SOUND AND PRICE ACCORDINGLY.

GIVE US A SEASON FOR THE ADVANTAGES OF 5.1 GIVEN OUR CENTER SIZE AND

ACOUSTICS.

Question 19) We assume accessibility includes Audio description as well as closed captioning? Is that correct?

ACCORDING TO ADA GUIDELINES-PHYSICAL ACCESS, HEARING AND SIGHT

IMPAIRMENT AND CLOSED CAPTIONING SOLUTIONS ARE REQUIRED.

Question 20) Could you clarify what you envision by way of “testing and maintenance of film products”?

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NEW PRODUCTIONS AND OTHER USES OF THE

HARDWARE ARE TESTED ON THE NEW EQUIPMENT (THROUGH COORDINATION WITH

THE FILM PRODUCTION COMPANY AT EACH SITE) AND THAT A MAINTENANCE PLAN

AND WARRANTIES ARE EXPLAINED TO THE VISITOR CENTER PERSONNEL.

Question 21) On page 37 there is a callout for, “Special Project Specifications”, Section Pre-installation improvements. Are the 3 paragraphs of improvements listed on this page in the scope of the fabricator or are they to be provided by the client?

THE CLIENT WILL NEED TO COORDINATE WITH THE LOCAL UTILITY FOR CHANGES IN

TELEPHONE AND WIRING AND WITH THE FOREST SERVICE IT AND ENGIEERING FOR

ACCESS TO AND INFORMATION ON EXISTING INSTALLED ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER

LINES.
