Questions and Answers
Q: What are the allowed work hours?
A: Unless otherwise approved, work hours shall be between 08:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Q: Is overnight camping allowed onsite?
A: Yes, the Forest Service will authorize camping during the course of the project for up to two trailers.
Q: What utilities are available onsite?
A: Vault toilet facilities are available, when the water system is operational it is available for drinking and minor amounts, up to 500 gallons per day, for construction. Power is not available.
Q: What fencing is required for excavations?
A: During the day caution tape plus monitoring is appropriate for excavations. If an excavation is to remain open overnight the excavated area shall be fenced to prevent public access to the site in accordance with specification 312000, paragraph 3.6 D.
Q: What information is available on the well to be abandoned?
A: The well log for the existing well, one to be abandoned, is attached. It has been filled up with dirt to approximately 45 feet below the top of the casing. The well shall be abandoned by cutting off the well casing 3 feet below the finished ground, pouring bentonite into the well until there is 1 to 3 feet of space left in the casing, and then capping with a concrete cap.
The hole shall then be buried and then graded smooth over the well. All bentonite and concrete used for this item is included in the lump sum quantity for the well abandonment and shall not be paid for separately.
Q: Is it possible to turn off the water into the Diamondfield Jack Parking Lot?
A: Yes, the water can be shut-off to the parking area. The Contractor shall notify the Forest Service 72 hours prior to needing the water turned off.
Q: On sheet 4 of the Drawings what happens if the existing 2-inch waterline is encountered prior to the location shown on the plans.
A: Visiting with the designer it is not possible to shorten the length of the 6-inch oversized pipe as it is necessary for contact time. If the line is encountered sooner the contractor shall install a new 2-inch line in the same trench that runs parallel to the new 6-inch line. This may be possible for approximately 80 feet. There shall be no change in contract price if this situation occurs.
Q: How should the project be bid for bedding and pipe zone material?
A: Items 221100-1 and 221100-2 indicate the pipe zone and bedding material is included in the waterline pricing. The contractor shall bid the project assuming 100% bedding imported and 40% pipe zone import. If more than 40% of pipe zone is needed this will be treated as an item needing a contract modification. The contractor shall be required to sort material that has less than 10% by weight of unsuitable pipe zone material if the sorting makes the material suitable for pipe zone material.
Q: Does topsoil and gravel need to be conserved?
A: Yes, topsoil and gravel shall be conserved and replaced in their respective locations.
Q: What sources exist for commercial bedding and pipe zone sources?
A: There are several private pits at the bottom of Rock Creek along Base Line Road.
