AG-0116-S-15-0011 South POW Road Drainage Stabilization Questions and Answers
1. What is the weight of the MBS Bridge to be removed?
Answer: The bridge at Cabin Creek is an MBS (Modular Bridge System) Bridge. It’s a fracture critical bridge with (2) identical box beam girders acting as a super structure. It has 8”x10” timber floor beams running perpendicular to the span at 16” centers with 4”x12” decking and typically 3”x12” wearing surface running parallel to span. I’ve attached the drawings for the 70’ version of the bridge design.
A previous estimate for the weight of an 80’ MBS bridge yielded a weight of around 1,450 PLF. A reasonable estimate for a 70’ MBS bridge would be approximately 101,500 lbs.
2. May the Forest Service recommend a company for Glulam Bridge? A company used in the past?
Answer: The Forest Service doesn’t make any recommendation for any specific company. The following is a list of companies that may provide Glulam Bridges.
Western Wood Structures, Inc. http://westernwoodstructures.com/
BC Schmidt Construction, Inc. http://bcschmidt.com/BC_Schmidt_Construction,_Inc..html
RLD Fabrication Company Inc. http://rldcompany.com/ http://westernwoodstructures.com/ http://bcschmidt.com/BC_Schmidt_Construction,_Inc..html http://rldcompany.com/
