Questions and Answers #3 Additional Clarification to #2

Timber, Fall, and Buck Solicitation AG-0116-S-14-0032

2. Question: The solicitation appears to be for 1 professional timber faller. What is considered “adequate personnel” and what would be the duties of these additional personnel?

Is the adequate personal to meet the job requirements 1 professional faller familiar with felling old growth timber in SE Alaska? YES

9. Question: What type inspection system will the contractor be expected to maintain?

If the contractor is working with USFS personnel and not alone will he be required to provide a radio or other means of emergency communication? Reference: "contractor shall provide a functional 2 way communication system and be familiar with its use"

YES

10. Question: I have been on-line looking for a silvey tree jack with remote controls.

I learned that silvey tree jacks are no longer made. I contacted Madsen's Saw Supply in Oregon and they can get parts but the jacks are no longer available and they couldn't tell me where I might be able to find one. It may be possible to purchase a used one if you could find it. If the Silvey tree jack is no longer available is it still required equipment for this contract?

I have been in contact with Madsen's Saw and Bailey's Saw shop, the 2 main logging equipment supply sources on the West Coast. They both told me that not only is the Silvey tree jack no longer made, but that there is no other similar jack available. According to Madsen's "no one is making a tree jack at this time, we are keeping a watch for a similar (to the Silvey jack) product but at this time we don't know of anything". I have done an internet search and can't find a similar product.
