Bridge Rehabilitation – Painted Creek Bridge Questions and Answers (Questions 1-7 were previously answered and posted to FBO on 4/7/17)

Q8: Sheets 3 and 4 show diaphragm braces MK3A and MK3B respectively. We have noticed that there are some differences in the measurements from those provided in the referenced fabricators shop drawing sheet no 3. Are the dimensions in the design drawings actually field measurements?

A8: As-built information for this bridge does not exist, so the dimensions shown on the development drawings are based upon fabricator information at the time the existing bridge girders were fabricated in the shop. The successful Contractor will be required to field verify all dimensions for the new diaphragm cross-frame construction prior to ordering materials. The controlling dimensions will be the inside face of girder web to inside face of girder web in each girder bay at each location where a new cross-frame is to be installed. The existing fabrication drawings show this controlling dimension for the new cross-frame widths to be 5’-10 3/8”. The frame width dimensions for the new diaphragm cross-frames marked MK3A (inner-most) and MK3B (outer-most) on contract drawing sheets Nos. 3 and 4 differ due to the change in the vertical connector angles that are to be bolted to the girder webs at all new cross-frame locations. Those new cross-frames marked MK3A will connect to unequal leg Ls 5 x 3 ½ x ½ angles with the long leg horizontal and those new cross-frames marked MK3B will connect to equal leg Ls 4 x 4 x ½ due to flange width variations in the location of their respective placement. The gage of the drilled holes on the outstanding connector angle legs differs depending on the length of the leg (i.e., hole gage is 3” for the L 5 x 3 ½ x ½ and the hole gage is 2.125” for the L 4 x 4 x ½ ) and this difference established the new cross-frame horizontal widths. The new cross-frame horizontal widths may require adjustment depending on the actual inside face of girder web to inside face of girder web measurements taken in each girder bay at each new cross-frame installation point.

Q9: Drawing references a sheet 5, but package does not contain a sheet 5. Is sheet 5 missing?

A9: Sheet 5 contained an alternative that is not being included in the requirement. An updated Sheet 2 is provided with the update.
