Bridge Rehabilitation - Painted Creek Bridge

Questions and Answers

Q1: Please provide the bridge manufacturer and bridge ID # for the bridge.

A1: The bridge was not purchased from a bridge product manufacturer. It was fabricated by Jesse Engineering using standard plans developed by the Regional Office Bridge

Engineer in Region 10. There exists no other bridge number for this bridge other than the

Structure No. 100553000003109 assigned to this bridge in our bridge management system

(INFRA).

Q2: Plans show Jesse Engineering as the metal fabricator, but need know what type of bridge this is.

A2: The bridge is a Region 10 Standard and is a three-girder design employing welded steel plate girders with transverse glued-laminated deck panels. The overall bridge length is 121

FT and the bridge is currently load restricted to a weight limit of 5 tons.

Q3: Is the road, 3.5 miles from LTF where this crossing is, accessible for heavy machinery transport, lowboy, chassis trailers, and heavy equipment, and are there any present conditions to the road such as slides, washouts or other?

A3: To the best of our knowledge, the road (NFSR 8400000 System Shoal Cove) leading into the bridge was designed as a logging road capable of handling OHV traffic (U80 log trucks and L90 tracked loaders on lowboys). The Forest Service not aware of any present road conditions such as slides, washouts or other similar conditions; the interested contractors may make a site visit to ascertain conditions.

Q4: Are there any other contractors using this bridge access this season?

A4: Yes, there will be other contractors using the bridge. It is expected this bridge repair work will be performed first to remove the weight restrictions on the bridge.

Q5: Can the road be closed at bridge site for the work to take place?

A5: Yes, the bridge may be closed, but it is not anticipated for the bridge to be closed for the entire 90 day performance period. The USFS has requested within the RFQ to see the proposed/preliminary construction schedule indicating dates of the contractor’s request to close the road. The USFS anticipates that the actual work can be completed in a timely manner during one week of the 2017 construction (field) season and expects the bridge to be closed only during the time the actual work is being performed.

Q6: Can the FS provide a copy of the last bridge inspection report with photos of the bridge.

A6: Yes. The routine bridge inspection documents (including 8 photos) are posted in a separate attachment.

Q7: Could you please define the paint system grade you require as noted on Page 24 of

Attachment 1 – FS Supplemental Specs.

A7. Paint system is Grade 3.
