About this file

This is Addendum 1 to the Invitation to Bid (ITB) for the Riverwalk, Phase III project issued by the Town of Bridgewater, Virginia. The project extends the Riverwalk eastward from Edgebriar Park to Hatcher Drive and includes installation of a permeable paver shared-use path. The amendment updates the bid tab document, specifically modifying Item 305SX20-0025 (10' Wide Paver Trail) to 625 square yards. The project includes 32 line items encompassing site preparation, demolition, drainage infrastructure, paving, signage, landscaping, and erosion control measures. The Town anticipates issuing a Notice to Proceed in September 2026, subject to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) authorization, with a 180-calendar-day contract completion timeline from the Notice to Proceed. Weather-related work suspensions during winter months may be permitted with Town and VDOT approval, resulting in adjusted completion dates.

The addendum provides clarification on material specifications, stating that existing pavers installed during Riverwalk Phase I are Belgard manufacturer Eco-Bay II pavers (80mm) in James River color. Since the original James River color is no longer available, bidders must select pavers that most closely match the style, color, and overall appearance of existing pavers and submit proposed samples to the Town for review and approval prior to material ordering. All bid items reference the 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications. Bidders must acknowledge that unit prices include overhead and profit for each item and that estimated quantities are not guaranteed; final payment will be based on actual quantities as determined in the contract documents. The project is funded through a VDOT Transportation Alternatives grant.

Addendum #1

This addendum updates the following:

• Bid tab document (attached) updated as follows:

*305SX20-0025 10' WIDE PAVER TRAIL 625 SY

Please use attached, updated bid form.

• What type of pavers were previously used on Riverwalk?

Existing pavers are Belgard manufacturer Eco-Bay II pavers (80mm) James River color

• What type of pavers should be used for Riverwalk, Phase III?

The plans indicate that the pavers should "match existing Bridgewater Riverwalk." The

Town's intent is for the Riverwalk Phase III pavers to be similar in style, color, and overall appearance to the existing pavers installed as part of Riverwalk Phase I. We understand that an exact match is not possible because the original James River color is no longer available. Bidders should use their best judgment in selecting a paver that most closely matches the style, color, and overall appearance of the existing Riverwalk. The successful bidder shall submit the proposed paver and color samples to the Town for review and approval prior to ordering materials.

• When is construction anticipated to begin, and how does the 180-day contract time apply during the winter months?

The Town anticipates issuing a Notice to Proceed in September 2026, subject to VDOT authorization. The Contractor will have 180 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed to complete the project. The Town recognizes that weather conditions may make certain work impractical during the winter months. Subject to approval by the Town and VDOT, a suspension of work may be permitted, with the contract completion date adjusted accordingly.
