About this file
This is Addendum 1 to Request for Bids 354-RFB-27-10 issued by the Town of Cary, North Carolina, dated October 9, 2026, clarifying specifications and addressing twelve questions submitted during the RFB question period for a Horizontal Shafted Screw Conveyor project. The addendum confirms that three 15'-4" sectional screw assemblies are required to accommodate the 46'-5" conveyor length with two close-coupling shafts. The screw assembly shall consist of 1/2-inch carbon-steel flights continuously welded to 6-inch Schedule 80 carbon-steel pipe, with 3/16-inch troughs featuring 1/4-inch AR235 liners full length. The drive configuration shall consist of a 7.5-horsepower motor coupled to a Nord SK5282SC reducer at 35 RPM output. No hanger bearings or instrumentation are required, and the conveyor will utilize a continuous straight screw configuration. The design capacity basis is 667 cubic feet per hour of 55 pounds-per-cubic-foot biosolids. Startup, training, and field welding of inlet chutes are not required. The Town will provide off-loading equipment and be responsible for equipment off-loading at delivery. Approved equals fabricated by qualified screw-conveyor fabricators other than the original manufacturer are acceptable if they meet all specified requirements and existing interfaces.
The addendum establishes that shop drawings require 30 days for Town review, with all questions and comments to be satisfactorily addressed and final approval required before fabrication begins. Suppliers shall provide a minimum one-year warranty on all parts, materials, components, and equipment, effective from the delivery date. Pricing remains fixed for an initial sixty-day period with an option to extend for up to five additional six-month periods subject to price adjustments tied to the All Urban Consumers Price Index (CPI-U) if industry-wide adjustments occur. All pricing is quoted FOB destination with freight prepaid, and bidders must provide detailed pricing subtotals and grand totals including goods, freight, on-site startup, and training fees, with taxes listed separately on invoices. The Town reserves the right to reject any bids or units failing to meet specifications upon delivery, with all freight charges on rejected units borne by the successful bidder.

354-RFB-27-10 Request for Bids for Horizontal Shafted Screw Conveyor
ADDENDUM 1 (October 9, 2026)
Please note that this addendum is to clarify the bid and answer questions submitted during the “RFB Questions” open period. All other terms and conditions given in the RFB are in full force and effect.
QUESTION & ANSWER
1. Minimum Specifications, Section 3 (pages 14–15), calls for two 15'-4" sectional screw assemblies. Given the stated conveyor length of 46'-5" and the requirement for two close-coupling shafts, should the required quantity be three sectional screw assemblies?
Yes. The required quantity should be three (3) 15'-4" sectional screw assemblies to accommodate the specified conveyor length of 46'-5" and the requirement for two close-coupling shafts.
2. Minimum Specifications, Section 2 (page 14), lists the screw material as 304 stainless steel, while Section 3 calls for 1/2-inch carbon-steel flights continuously welded to 6-inch
Schedule 80 carbon-steel pipe. Which screw construction is required?
The screw assembly shall consist of 1/2-inch-thick carbon-steel flights continuously welded to a 6-inch Schedule 80 carbon-steel pipe, as specified in Section 3.
3. Drive configuration. The Drive and Motor Data table lists a 7-1/2 horsepower motor with a Nord SK5282SC reducer at 35 revolutions per minute output; the Drive Assembly section specifies a 10 horsepower Nord Clincher gearmotor at approximately 29 revolutions per minute; and a note in the issued document references 7-1/2 horsepower at 22 revolutions per minute. Please confirm the single required drive configuration bidders must price.
The required drive configuration shall consist of a 7.5-horsepower motor coupled to a Nord SK5282SC reducer, providing an output speed of 35 RPM. See the attached name plates for the existing motors for reference.
4. Trough construction. The specification requires 3/16-inch troughs with 1/4-inch AR235 liners full length; the drawing shows 1/4-inch troughs without liners. Which governs?
The specification governs requiring 3/16-inch troughs with 1/4-inch AR235 liners full length
5. Screw sections and hangers. The specification lists two 15-foot 4-inch sections; the drawing shows three sections with two 85-millimetre auto-lubricated hanger assemblies plus a spare. Please confirm the required section count and hanger quantity and type.
Three screw sections shall be provided to meet the required overall conveyor length. No hanger bearings are required, as the conveyor shall utilize a continuous straight screw configuration.
6. Instrumentation. Please confirm the complete required instrument list, including whether the rotation (speed) switch shown on the drawing is required, in addition to the cover limit switches and the RS-2D emergency-stop station.
None of the instruments listed in the drawing are required.
7. Capacity and motor data. Please confirm the design capacity basis (the drawing states
667 cubic feet per hour of 55 pounds-per-cubic-foot biosolids) and clarify motor voltage, full-load amperage, and whether reversing duty is required.
See attached photos of motor name plates for information.
8. Warranty. Section 7 states no duration for the unit warranty. Please confirm the minimum warranty period required.
Supplier shall provide a minimum one (1) year warranty on all parts, materials, components, and equipment furnished under this Contract. The warranty period shall begin on the date of delivery.
9. Shop drawings and schedule. What is the Town's review period for shop drawings? Is written approval required before fabrication, and is there a required delivery date?
Allow 30 days for review. All questions and comments must be satisfactorily addressed, and submittals must receive final approval before fabrication may begin.
10. Startup and Training. Please define the scope (days, crew, trips), confirm whether the line is mandatory, and whether pricing it makes the bidder a provider of Services under the Purchase Order Terms (insurance certificates).
Not required.
11. Field scope. Please confirm that field welding of inlet chutes, installation and anchoring are by others, and what off-loading equipment the Town provides at delivery.
The Town will be responsible for off-loading and will have the necessary equipment available on-site to safely off-load the equipment.
12. Approved equals. Please confirm that a conveyor fabricated to drawing D0010221J by a qualified screw-conveyor fabricator other than the original manufacturer is acceptable as an approved equal if it matches all existing interfaces without retrofitting.
Approved equals will be accepted, provided the screw conveyor meets all specified requirements.
