Acquity UPC2 System: Technical Information and Salient Characteristics
Binary Solvent Manager:
- The high-pressure pumping module must have automatic and continuous compressibility compensation.
- Carbon Dioxide pump heads must be equipped with pre-chilling capability prior to entry into the pump heads.
- Carbon Dioxide pump heads must be directly cooled through the use of Peltier technology capable of driving the temperature of the Primary head down to 2 ºC and the Accumulator to 13 ºC from the low pressure side of the Accumulator.
- The pumping module must have a direct pressure control algorithm capable of counteracting the effects of changing pressures, due to temperature differences, and providing feedback compensation.
- The pumping module must be equipped with an Air Cooled Heat Exchanger.
- The pump module must have as a minimum standard offering; a four channel Solvent Selection Valve (SSV).
Sample Manager – Fixed Loop:
- The Sample Manager must have an injection volume range between 0.1 to 50.0 μL, allowing injections in 0.1 μL increments.
- Sample Manager module Injection Valve must have a specially designed rotor and stator to manage the liquid CO2.
- Sample Manager Injector must reduce injection pressure pulsations, which in-turn reduces carryover effects.
Convergence Manager:
- The Convergence Manager must have a tank overpressure feature. If the tank exceeds safe pressure limits the module will release CO2 to drop the pressure.
- The Convergence Manager must be capable of measuring the system pressure just before the Active Back Pressure Regulator (ABPR). Variation and error due to the pressure sensor must not cause the system to exceed pressure performance.
- The Convergence Manager must be capable of turning on and shutting off the CO2. This normally closed shut-off valve shall also automatically close when the instrument is shut-off.
- The Active Back Pressure Regulator (ABPR) within this module must have a dynamic regulating valve. This valve shall be capable of adjusting the system pressure to compensate for thermal and solvent composition changes.
- The ABPR within the module must have a valve heating system to counter the endothermic behavior of the CO2 liquid to gas phase change.
- The Convergence Manager must manage all leaks from the module into a drain tube directed to the front of the module where it will empty into a waste container supplied by the user.
Active-Column Manager (CM-A):
- The Column Manager must have active pre-heaters allow a settable temperature range between 4 ºC to 90 ºC
- The Column Manager must support column dimensions from 2.1 mm to 3.0 mm and up to 4.6 mm I.D. and up to a maximum length of 150 mm.
PDA Detector and Flowcell:
- The Detector must have appreciable low dispersion and must use a flowcell having a pathlength of ≤8.0 μL
- The Detector must support full 3D spectral analysis or multi-wavelength operation.
- The Detector must be equipped with Lamp Optimization software guaranteeing low noise performance in the visible range and compensation for lamp degradation over time ensuring constant response.
- The Detector Flowcell lens must be constructed of Fused Silica and have a specially designed radius of curvature reducing refractive indices of flowing liquid CO2.
- The Detector Flowcell must have a pressure rating of ≥6,000 psi
