The display shall adhere to the requirements as found in Table I of MIL-HDBK- 87213 Rev A (sunshine ambient in a bubble canopy, indoor enclosed cabin, and dark) for both Diffuse illumination and glare source. The verification shall be by demonstration and by analysis.
1.3.4.1.2 Contrast
The display shall adhere to the requirements as found in Table II of MIL-HDBK- 87213 Rev A (required contrast in worst-case ambient). The verification shall be by demonstration and by analysis.
1.3.4.2 NVIS
Minimum Luminance
Under night lighting, with the display brightness set at the lowest usable level with normal symbology, the display symbology shall be adequately visible. To achieve acceptable viewing in dark conditions, the minimum white symbol luminance when measured in a dark ambient must meet the requirements in MIL-STD-3009 (current revision).
1.3.4.3 NVIS
Radiance
Display areas of a specified color (excluding the dark or OFF state) shall have a radiance uniformity of less than 0.5 nit, per MIL-STD-3009 (current revision) for electronic and electo-optical displays (multi-color), Table III.a, across the utilized display surface when measured from the DEP. In no case shall luminance non-uniformity cause the maximum white symbol luminance anywhere on the usable display surface to go below the values previously specified.
1.3.4.4 NVG Mode
The displays shall adhere to the NVIS and NVG requirements as defined in MIL- STD-3009. In the NVG mode, the display shall be dimmable to a level that does not bloom the night vision goggles. 1.3.5.2 Specular
Reflections
The total specular (or shiny surface) reflectivity within the viewing envelope shall be less than 0.5 percent IAW MIL-HDBK-87213.. Other non-emitting areas shall have a low reflectivity coating to minimize internal reflections. In no case shall the level of reflectivity and loss of contrast be sufficient to cause distracting or erroneous interpretation.
1.3.5.3 Diffuse
Reflectivity
The total diffuse reflectivity (or the reflection of light from an uneven or granular surface) as measured with respect to the designed eye position shall be no more than 0.8 percent.
1.3.6 Noise The display shall not have a noise level exceeding 65 decibels.
