The project area is located 7 miles northeast of Carlin, Nevada and encompasses both public and private access roads. Contractors must supply sufficient equipment and a work crew to handle herbicide mixing and application. The Susie treatment area consists of many hills with drainages and draws that hold intermittently flowing streams. Terrain varies from flat, 2% slopes in the valley bottoms to steep hills with 15-45% slopes. Soils are loamy, deep, and well-drained. Elevation ranges from 5,100 to 5,600 feet. Vegetation consists of semi-dense to dense stands of Wyoming sagebrush and rabbitbrush shrublands, seeded crested wheat grasslands, mixed native forb and grass areas, and some sparse Utah Juniper stands. Susie Creek, a perennially flowing waterway, borders the eastern side of the project area. Two-track roads are concentrated on the north and east side of the project area. The steeper slopes may necessitate backpack spraying.

If water is present during the time of application, the buffers for non-aquatically formulated herbicides will be maintained at 10 feet for application by handgun and 25 feet for application with boom equipment. Spraying up to the water’s edge (within the buffer) will require use of aquatic formulated herbicide and surfactant.
