Do not drive staples parallel to the grain of the wood.

3.7 WIRE CLIPS

Wire clips shall be used on every wire at steel post locations. Secure wire to steel posts by bending clip ends over or around wire, crimping ends to secure wire on both sides of the post, but not so tight as to prevent free movement of the wire through the clip. Each side of the clip shall be twisted around the wire and back parallel to the clip itself.

3.8 BRACE WIRE

Shall be double looped in a crisscross fashion, twisted tight with either four plies of 9-gauge smooth wire or 8 plies of 12-1/2-gauge wires. Leave one end of the stick long enough to fasten behind the horizontal brace to prevent wire from unwinding.
