STATEMENT OF WORK
DRIP IRRIGATION REPAIR
Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) 7851 Second St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105
August 12, 2024
GENERAL:
Valle de Oro NWR is needing extensive repair work done on its drip irrigation system around its Visitor Center. The drip irrigation station controller, communication module, and solenoids were damaged due to heat and other elemental exposure, which was not accounted for in its initial installation. The sprinkler heads and rotors were damaged due to wear and tear, incorrect placement, and invasive plant pressure. Furthermore, the drip lines were damaged due to improper installment as well. Due to the improper installation of the initial drip irrigation system, the native plant landscaping that was installed was not efficiently and effectively getting watered for the past two years of operation of the Visitor Center, and the system fully failed in May of 2024 when none of the plants were getting watered and started to die off. Currently, staff and youth crews are using their limited capacity to hand watering native plants via a bucket and water tote system, which is also not the best efficient and effective system as a fully functioning drip irrigation system would be. With Valle de Oro getting nearly 16,000 visitors a year and our Visitor Center being our most public facing resource onsite and the centralized community asset that our visitors enjoy first before venturing into the rest of refuge, we really need this space to look its best.

The work includes installation, adjustment, and replacement of station controller, communication module, sprinkler heads and rotors, drip lines, emitters, solenoids, valves, and programming of timers.
