The Oracle Linux Software is used by Oracle developers worldwide and is backed by support services from experts who understand the entire Oracle technology stack. The Army utilizes Oracle Linux in order to take advantage of Oracle Linux templates to deploy enterprise applications faster. Oracle Linux is the only Linux distribution that supports live, non-disruptive patching, both in the kernel space and in the user space.

That means you can immediately apply security patches without impacting your production environment—and without rebooting. Oracle Linux is an operating system.

The Oracle Linux software utilization in the listed projects specifically does these things:

- Provides the Oracle Linux Operating System. The systems cannot function without an operating system (e.g. the average home user could not run their pc without some form of Windows, or a Macintosh without a MacOS).

- Deploys enterprise applications

- Provides live, non-disruptive patching, both in the kernel space and in the user space

- Provides a database environment for mission- critical applications running under the Digital VAX and Alpha OpenVMS operating systems

- Provides both data security and database uptime

- Provides a single central location for data definitions shared by multiple applications and databases

- Provides messaging capabilities between systems

The Oracle CODASYL DBMS provides a powerful and reliable database environment for mission- critical applications running under the Digital VAX and Alpha OpenVMS operating systems, including large-scale applications such as insurance claim processing, power plant operation, and shop floor control systems. The Oracle Rdb's technical strengths include, very high performance to deliver extraordinary real-world throughput, Extremely high reliability, providing both data security and database uptime, Extremely high availability—requirements for scheduled maintenance downtime are minimal, Easy maintainability and Low cost per transaction.

The Oracle BEA MessageQ is a technique for information exchange among distributed applications. Message queues can reside in computer memory or on disk. Message queues store messages until they are read by the receiver program. Through message queuing, application programs can execute independently-they do not need to know each other's location or wait for the receiver program to retrieve the message before continuing.

The Oracle Common Data Dictionary/Repository (CDD/R) is a repository product in support of Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) environment. Its traditional role is as a single central location for data definitions shared by multiple applications and databases. CDD/Repository ensures the consistency of this information because it is shareable across multiple applications. Many Oracle Relational Database (RDB) users have traditionally used CDD/Repository to facilitate consistency across their Oracle Rdb databases. These items are essential to the warfighter and must maintain the licensing and maintenance for proper usage and support.

The Oracle Partitioning Named User Plus is defined as an individual authorized by the end users to use the programs which are installed on a single server or multiple servers, regardless of whether the individual is actively using the programs at any given time. A non-human operated device will be counted as a named user plus in

TOTAL ESTIMATED COST OF REENGINNERING

EFFORT PROVIDED BY THE PM

Total estimated cost to change software and reengineer the program baseline of an integrated software system. This parametric estimating tool is based on multiple factors related to substituting different COTS software products for an existing COTS software product that has already been integrated and fielded in program. The reengineering factors, include but are not limited to, how the software is used within the baseline; how the software is distributed throughout the program; where the software is in the configuration of the integrated systems program; how many times the replacement upgrade needs to uploaded; where the upgrades need to be installed; the number of times the software has to be loaded in existing fielded equipment and or locations; and the level of effort required to validate the software is a true substitution that meets all minimum program requirements.

The configuration management requirements and the security features required to maintain the Authority-to-Operate (ATO) in accordance with US Army Cyber Security standards and policy. The cost is determined by the engineer's knowledge of the program configuration management; the relationship of the software to the kernel, the core of the operating system; the ATO certification requirements; the historical data related to the original software applications integration decision or the last refreshment of the baseline; and other factors. The ATO certification is required to ensure the network remains secure and is compliant with the current DOD Cybersecurity policy, which require maintaining access to the latest software application patches, upgrades, and any required security related updates. The current software has already been tested, certified and determined to be in full compliance of latest DOD IT cybersecurity policy.
