Amendment 0001
The purpose of this amendment is to post contractor’s questions and answers, add the site visit attendance roster, change the bid due date and add Microsoft Teams meeting information for the bid opening.
A. Contractor questions and answers are provided as follows:
Question 1: Existing Dry Chemical System, does this system need to be removed and properly recycled as part of the scope of the CO2 System Project?
Answer 1: Yes all existing system piping shall be removed from system area after new CO2 system is installed.
Question 2: Existing roll‐up fire door, can you confirm that the scope of removing the existing fire door and installing a new fire door is part of the CO2 Project Scope.
Answer 2: Yes per the specification “remove and install a new fire door to operate (drop) upon CO2 detection system.
Question 3: Fire alarm drawings COV page shows Comm. Bldg. as a hatched area meaning that it is part of this project. We do not see the Comm. Bldg. shown anywhere else on the drawings. Please advise.
Answer 3: The Comm building is not included in this phase of the overall project.
Question 4: Fire alarm drawings COV page states Project Scope 1. Remove and replace fire alarm system including alarm panel, devices and wiring. (See Sheets FA0.1‐Fa1.5) Package makes no other mention of existing devices. Is this a case of remove devices and replace new like devices in kind? Please quantify scope of demolition. It is noted that there is the removal of a dry chemical system for the CO2 portion of project.
Answer 4: Paragraph “Part 2.0 ‐ Products” identifies all equipment and materials that are to be replaced, therefore, all items being replaced must be removed. All new devices must provide means of connecting and communicating with devices not being replaced.
Question 5: F0.1 Sequence of operations mentions VESDA detection. VESDA is not shown anywhere else on the drawings. Please advise.
Answer 5: FS1.1 shows a “Linear Heat Detection” (thick u‐shape line) which applies to the system in question. Vesda is one of ‘three’ manufacturers and Fire Engineer has no preference as to which one is utilized.
Question 6: Quantity of devices shown on FA0.1’s equipment list do not match what is shown on the floor plans. Please advise.
Answer 6: Please follow the floor plans for the accurate amount of devices/equipment. Is this something we need to correct?
Question 7: Are the dry pendant heads you are calling out for on the plans need to be dry pendants or even replaced at this time? It shows them upgrading to 2 total pac dry systems in that area in phase 2 so it would be counter productive to replace them twice in my opinion.
Answer 7: Follow the specification for replacement of equipment.
Question 8: Also the heads that are currently in that area are not dry pendants and it would require cutting open the ceiling, cutting pipe and reworking the system to get dry pendants to work if that is what they want. Are you set on replacing them I suggest just putting 155 degree semi recessed pendants in there until DofE are ready to do the pre action system.
Answer 8: Follow the specification for the replacements of the heads.
Question 9: Are contractors expected to remove/replace ceiling tiles daily during the construction period?
Answer 9: This is “as required”, depends on if there are any risks associated with leaving the areas open, if the area is not occupied and there are no risks, they should not need to be replaced if work is ongoing.
Question 10: Will work areas be occupied during construction? If so, will contractors be required to work outside normal business hours (8a‐5p)?
Answer 10: Some areas are currently occupied (24 hrs/day), so work will have to be accomplished in those areas. As of now, there are minimal employees on site, however this is subject to change. Any work that is REQUIRED to be completed outside of normal business hours will be coordinated on a case‐by‐case basis, however, we would like to prevent it from happening.
Question 11: In the occupied areas, are contractors required to move furniture and other items from the work areas and place in a customer/govt identified storage location?
Answer 11: If advanced notice is provided by the contractors, the furniture can be moved before work starts. If this request is not provided in advance, we will do our best to assist in moving furniture.
Question 12: Will contractors be escorted at all times, or will our crews receive access badges to the work site?
Answer 12: Contractors will be escorted at all times. We ask that work is scheduled for one area at a time to limit the amount of escorts required during the project. Prior coordination is required if this is not possible.
Question 13: Is there any training contractors will need to go through to be allowed on the work site?
Answer 13: No training is required by all contractors have to be escorted at all times and all contractors must be US Citizens and must provide identification.
Question 14: Part 1.5 MAINTENANCE of Section 28 31 00 calls for Maintenance and testing to be on a semi‐annual basis or as required by the AHJ. How long does the customer/govt require this service to be in place?
Answer 14: 12 months from the project acceptance.
Question 15: Part 3.4 Routine Maintenance of Section 21 21 00 calls for Routine maintenance on equipment to be performed by a certified Kidde Fire System Distributor, in accordance with the most current version of NFPA 12 and the manufacturer’s installation, operation and maintenance manual. How long does the customer/govt require this service to be in place?
Answer 15: 12 months from the project acceptance.
Question 16: Please confirm all new fire alarm cabling will be free aired in accessible areas, while areas that are exposed or inaccessible will be in conduit.
Answer 16: As long as the cabling method meets all applicable code requirements.
Question 17: Please confirm if the intent is to leave the existing fire alarm system installed and operational while the new fire alarm system is installed, or can the existing system be demoed prior to the installation of the new fire alarm system.
Answer 17: The existing fire alarm system must remain operational while the new system is installed.
Question 18: Regarding the existing fire alarm system, can conduit that is installed in walls or inaccessible be abandoned and left in place?
Answer 18: Per specification, “Remove all existing alarm components e.g. panels, devices and wiring.
Question 19: Regarding the existing fire alarm system, can existing backboxes in walls and hard lid ceilings be abandoned and blanked off?
Answer 19: Per specification, “Remove all existing alarm components e.g. panels, devices and wiring.
